My cone is pointing towards the batt.. Straight out of the intake manifold..

My cone is pointing towards the batt.. Straight out of the intake manifold.. no piping... this is what i think too wahaha . i guess the water coolant tube is remove and join directly

Hmm.. I didn't see the technician removing and joining the coolant tube.. What he does it take out the CAI piping from air box, remove the connection from the airbox to the intake manifold, then take out the joints that are holding the airbox.. After which, the open pod is installed..

hi guys, sry for being so inactive... really busy these days... here are some pics of my pica's engine bay which i long owed everyone. i used my 2megpix camera phone, so its kinda blur... ;D from this pic below, u can still see the CAI pipe on the right of the open pod filter (naked)this pic below is the "full" view of my pica's engine bay (i missed out my Pmax VS on the extreme rite ;D )

i'll be going for my 10k servicing tmr, am i able to request what type of fully-syn engine oil i want for my pica? (at C&C) if so, what grade will be good for a smooth ride? 4w-50? hope some1 can help me

open pod can do CAI too =) after so many mths, glad tat u guys still modding sia.. =) but nvr get to see u guys -__-" i'm eager to meet everyone in person too.. but just can't help it... very hard to get everyone together... so far i've met picanyeo and daniel only... talking about mods, anyone care to feedback on light-weight crank pulley? i've studied quite abit on it and hope that anyone can share their views and experiences

I read it on another thread that it can lower the rpm of the engine.. For example, our current rpm at 100km/hr is about 3, whereas the one who has the rpm crank pulley installed is 2.6rpm only.. But still, I do not know what's the exact use of the crank pulley..

I think next month, I can take half day leave and find you drink coffee.. See when you can off work early and we can arrange in advance.. open pod can do CAI too =) after so many mths, glad tat u guys still modding sia..

Post by picanyeo on Nov 13, 2009 7:54:02 GMT 8
I think some time during next month.. I can't meet on weekends coz got to spend time with family.. So I think that it's best that we can take a half day off or something.. If we have off peak car bros, then we can suggest to meet at his block or something.. In this way, no need to drive out.. save $$$.. Coz it's just to meet up and chit chat..

I read it on another thread that it can lower the rpm of the engine.. For example, our current rpm at 100km/hr is about 3, whereas the one who has the rpm crank pulley installed is 2.6rpm only.. But still, I do not know what's the exact use of the crank pulley.. with the same gearbox, i dun think the rpm will drop. it could be that he installed an underdrive or overdrive pulley, which can result in a different rpm reading at the tachometer... the rpm of crank pulley is the value reflected on ur car's tachometer. it drives the alternator which generates electricity for ur car. a reduced weight crank pulley "should" reduce the hold-back of the alternator, especially when the air-con compressor cuts in. (which usually eats up a car's cc by ~150; estimation; for picanto, its 1100cc - 150cc = 950cc) i've read that after changing to a light weight crank pulley (LWCP), it showed no gain in bhp or torque after a dyno comparison. this was what i "think" after reading a few sites: the no gain in bhp or torque after changing to LWCP is appropriate, it is because the load on a crank pulley is caused by electrical means. when ur car battery requires charging, the alternator will have increased load which requires more energy from the engine to drive, causing a moment of drag until the air con compressor cuts off and load is released from the crank pulley. this is why we can sometimes feel that the car is abit "retard" at 1 point and suddenly at another point it will push off with more power. (with maintained throttle) i believe the dyno is tested with minimum electrical supply (air con should be off) and that will not show the difference of the car's response as compared to when u're driving comfortably with air con on and moving off from a dead stop. i may not be right, feel free to correct me of cos, there are quite a few disadvantages of LWCP which i've read and asked: - alternator under-driven, causing battery under-charged - LWCP rotating faster due to light weight, causing lesser grip on the belt which is linked to drive the alternator - LWCP breaks/give way upon impact, after long use or when rev'ed at high rpm in neutral gear (of cos, ppl usually dun rev high rpm at neutral gear for fun) - car loses momentum when going up slope but changing the crank pulley to a lighter weight material should benefit low cc cars like pica in SG driving. (especially with a/c on)

so how is the performance now? still good? what about fc? lower end still good? yes, performance is good, just that cabin noise is increased. my fc didn't change much. first tank clocked about 11.5km/l, 2nd tank 12.1km/l of cos compared to other bros it may seem low, but i drive mostly in urban (65% urban 35% highway) i stepped more on the accelerator during this 2 tanks, was rather shiok! my fc before open pod was avg of 12.5km/l

Find it hard to believe but as long as you keep to your old driving style, it works.. The only time when I step hard on the accelerator is when I need to overtake.. And believe me, for pica, you will find that overtaking at 80km/hr to 90km/hr range is easier compared to before.. However, there's a drawback.. I feel that acceleration at lower rpm drops.. So I always try to keep my rpm above 2.2rpm.. But this is expected as open pods tend to give you high end power, but reduce your low end power.. My previous FC is fluctating between 12 to 14km/ltr.. Now i get a stable FC of close to 14km/ltr.. I'm able to clock 200km in the first quarter tank, and 300km for half tank.. Previously, 1/4 tank is 150 to 180km, while 1/2 mark is 250km.. Not a very big increase, but to maintain your FC with an open pod is a bonus in additional to the increase in power..
