Hi Joey Im drive 05 cerato with a mileage of 47k. Every morning or when the engine is cold, when i start the car, there would be a knocking sound coming from the engine. It sounds like two ball bearings hitting each other at 2-3 times a second. But after 20 sec or so, the sound would go off. My last servicing was at 42k using fully syn oil, denso iridium ik20 spark plugs and i also did a full ATF flush at your AMK branch. Any help? Sorry to have missed your posting. My guess is your Hydraulic Valve Lifter sound. It is not a big problem but it is a very irritating noise. Did you ever use any Engine Oil Additive before? Some Oil Additive way is to coat the metal parts to reduce friction. This type of Additive also narrow needle valves and oil passages. Hydraulic Valve Lifters are vulnerable to these type of Additive. Thanks and safe driving. Joey Lim

hi, I heard that during the first 3 servicing of a new car will use semi-symetic oil . after that, FULL-symetic oil will take over all the way. with this help, it claim to make the engine more durable... is this true?

hi, I heard that during the first 3 servicing of a new car will use semi-symetic oil . after that, FULL-symetic oil will take over all the way. with this help, it claim to make the engine more durable... is this true? First, the main reason why the first 2 oil changes are fixed at 1k & 5k km is due to metal chips/filings. Due to the 'newness' of the moving parts in the engine, there are lots of rubbing. These chips/filing are extremely harmful to the engine. Therefore, it is necessary to get rid of them as early as possible. But however, as the mileage interval are so short, fully synthetic oil (which last 10k km) will be a real waste. Therefore, the cheapest and yet adequate oil is Mineral Oil (don't need semi-syn). However, as I have stated earlier in other posting that some VVT engine needs xxW-30 oil, where Mineral Oil are of higher viscosity. Therefore, the lowest grade oil can be used for these 2 services is xxW-40 oil which is Fully Synthetic! 1 more important thing is the oil filter must be changed during these 2 services. Thanks and safe driving. Joey Lim

hi, so even though using semi synthetic oil might be a waste. but i really don't mind paying abit more to protect the engine as it's the main asset of the car. am i right? please enlighten me. thank you.

Yes i did use some engine addictive that mixes with the engine oil. My dad swears by it for his vehicle and insisted i use it as well. I used it once during 28k mileage and have since gone through 2 engine oil changes. So is it detrimental to the engine? Must i do anything about it or leave it alone? Thanks for your help..

hi, I am driving a Kia Rio LS 05.. Every time when I start the engine and step the brake , there is noise. I went to change a set of brake disc and a set of brake pad and still there is sound coming out. I was told it was cold start. But when i drive for half an hour and switch off the engine and come back 10 mins later, still got the sound, any idea what is causing the sound?

Haha, it a lucky guess lah. I would say don't keep it there. The knocking noise overtime = wear and tear on the Lifter Face. There is no cure to this except to change the whole Lifter Set. Each Lifter is about $300, you have 4 sets! To remove it (it may not be effective with 1 try), you will have to flush the engine with a strong detergent. But after that, you may have to do protection again as the engine internal surface will be bare again. Use those additive that will not cause chemical reaction with the engine oil thus causing the choke. You may only solve it in 2 to 3 flush if your original additive is, like your father said: TOK KONG one. Thanks and safe driving. Joey Lim

I suppose you are saying the common squeeching noise caused by buses. Are you using original brake pad? If not, then switch to originals. Is your disc rotor worn off or have carbon precipitation problem? If yes, just need to skim your rotor and it should solve the problem. Thanks and safe driving. Joey Lim

Hot Weather, engine sluggish? can explain? 1 very easy explanation is the air density. Hot air is sparse and thus contains fewer oxygen molecules.

Timing Belt Package has no engine oil. There must be some invoicing mistake or other explanation. Please PM me your vehicle no in order for me to do a check. Thanks for your support. hmmm this mean when i drive the car for sometime (on a cool nite), when the engine is hot, the air is hotter, then car became sluggish? is that the case? You are right and you are not so right! When I mention air, I mean ambient air (air outside your car). So, at night, if you driving for some time, the ambient air will still be cold. You are right that when the ambient air enters the engine compartment and engine, it will be heated up by the hot engine. But because the air is travelling at quite a fast speed, the rate of heating up is not so obvious and the eventual temperature is still much better than in the hot day. So you will not feel the sluggishness. Thanks and safe driving.
