Hey, next time if you fill to the brim, reset your FC meter. Then we all know if it is accurate and fair. Or is the fill to brim method true enough. How about that ?? I think the entire sgkiaclub only your Carens have it. The ONLY one......unique...... Yes, my Carens is equipped with stock Trip Computer, throughout the usage in 21 months, only manually reset twice, and another twice were forced-reset because of unclipping + and - poles of the battery. The latest one should be quite accurate, because I reset it during school holidays when spouse driving it to Singapore. After covering c losed to 1.5k km since reset, it shows 10.1 L / 100km = 9.9 km/L, so not really that precision, only as an indication. I remember that your Carens got the FC meter, izzit ? Does this FC tally with your FC meter ?? Or you dont press the reset button at all ?? Try it ??

This need to check with "Home Minister" haha. Well, it is because I remember during the last reset, we did it when Carens was just starting to roll on NSH from JB after Checkpoint. So, the Average FC reading is amazing low with Carens non stop and non-traffic-light affected. If we reset again, this time Carens will be fully in town, and the Average FC reading will be high reading, and this is not pleasing. So, I shall only monitor by real fuel filling brim-to-brim. It is an important learning that I have to refuel from the same pump I used before, although there are a few similar pumps at the same petrol kiosk. It is because different pump was having different parking level and it would change the amount of fuel put in between pumps.

The past weekend, my own driving covered 65km, I refueled 6.934 Litres from brim to brim, at the same petrol pump. FC = 9.374 km/L. Can be considered as town driving throughout.

Recently, my FC dropped. Over 3 weeks, it drop from 9.2km/L to 8.2km/L on weekday. And from 8.2km/L to 6.6km/L over weekend.
Change my spark plug IK20 (Denso Iridium), after 75kkm, to stock spark plug. At the time of change, the gap of the IK20 has reached 1.2mm.
FC improved from 6.6km/L to 7.3km/L.
Then I also change my front brake pad. Found a piece of cotton rag struck on the Caliper. Also discovered that the mounting screw guide of the caliper is jammed.
Now it seems that my FC is back to normal. So, next time you change your brake pads. Maybe you should ask your mechanic to check for this.
For me, I DIY, change front brake pad from as low as S$32.10........

Hi Carens owner, appreciate to advice if any of you is using Amsoil Signature Series Engine Oil 0W30, or 5W20 ? Am near 40k km and this is the first moment the ride will no longer under warranty and free to choose engine oil. Heard that besides good protection from Amsoil Signature Series EO, there is also positive feel on torque as friction on engine parts is lower, and hence improve FC too ?

Seems like no one is using Amsoil ...... All KIA built after 2004 can use thinner EO like the 0W20. It is the manufacturing technology when milling the piston. Thinner EO reduce pumping loss and all FC published by KIA uses 0W20. Since we are living in the tropic, 0W or 5W does not matter. W stand for Winter. When I moved from 5W40 to 5W30, I noticed a slight improvement of FC of about 20km per full tank. Thinner EO usually results in higher oil consumption, so if you are using thinner EO than before, please check you EO level every 500km. For at least the first 2kkm. Buy a 5ltr rather than 4ltr, just case you need to topup. The Theta Engine is an all aluminum engine, will be even more damaging if you run low on EO. 40kkm, you may want to do a cheap engine flush. Buy a can of Waxco Engine Flush @ Tesco RM10.90. You may want to try Waxco Engine Treatment (Red Can for new engine) also @ Tesco for RM15.90. But Engine treatment tends to thicken the EO. During the first 15k km, there were 4 services done, and two of which I was using 5W40. Balance with 5W30. I calculated my FC that I lost 700m per every litre of gasoline consumed with 5W40. Anyway, as of now no one in Carens community replied using Amsoil products, and I am not sure should I try. Since 0W30 is very tempting actually looking at the data sheet of the products, viscosity at low and high temperature are lower than 5W30 version. Thanks for your advice about the top up and constant checking until 2k km with 0W20. Seems like no one is using Amsoil ...... All KIA built after 2004 can use thinner EO like the 0W20. Frankly, any EO should be OK ?? No harm trying ........ for me I use X-Gold, the cheapest 5W30 I can find near my place. S$28.99 5ltr. Cheap, meet the spec, I just load up half a dozen. When you just change EO, of course, you sure feel the engine is smoother. If you are talking of the pick up and response, it is probably something else. Some people just change the air filter from stock to KNN or Hurricane. It do improve on the performance, slightly. I am using Hurricane..... Or at 40kkm, have you changed you spark plug......?? I am now here ! And carrying 5 quarts of Amsoil Signature Series 0W30 Engile Oil in hand from Allianz the official distributor of Amsoil in Singapore. Hopefully this brings the difference at least for the smoother engine feel which you mentioned below. 5W20 costs more actually SGD 16.80 per quart. 0W30 costs SGD 16 per quart. I bought 5 quarts because I am not sure if 0W30 would vaporize in tropical heat after some time, so...stand by. And I have been lingering between 5W20 and 0W30 on the way to Allianz, as I am not sure if I might be over-ambitious to try 5W20 which is too thin maybe. Anyway, good to try Amsoil this time against my normal Petronas Synthium 3000 - 5W30. And to answer your question, the service centre checked spark plugs at 30k km service, and gave the comment "no need to change". Normally spark plugs need to change at 30k km. But the plug condition was ok at 30k km. And service centre will inspect again at 40k km and will comment later. By the way, what is the pricing of original spark plug each ? Awesome..... you are so cool ..... Your car still low on the mileage, no problem to use 5W20. Mine have reached over 100kkm, I am the one who suppose to hesitate .....heeee If your spark plug is normal type, about time to change loh ...... between 30 to 40 kkm If yours is iridium, platinum, can easily go 75~100kkm. I just changed my iridium sparkplug after 75~80kkm and change a stock KIA spark plug KIA Part Number : 1881411051 Vendor : NGK BKR5ES-11 Price: S$12 for 4 pieces before GST. I am now here ! Thanks for encouragement. This is my first encounter with Amsoil Signature Series 0W30, and if the experience is awesome good. I shall try 5W20 at 50k km EO change. And this is amazing for SGD 12 (before GST) for 4 spark plugs !!! SGD 3 EACH. And you bought this original spark plugs from Min Ghee ? Malaysian automotive industry is really not helping the cars owners, RM 15 EACH spark plug. EO also expensive... And to reply you precisely the throttle response feedback, it means, for example, in the past right foot only depressed 10mm down then Kia Carens can just gush off handsomely. Then now need to depress 30mm down only can get Kia Carens to gush off in the same manner => will very thin Engine Oil such as 5W20 helps to make the original feel comes back such as 10mm down or even 7mm down on right foot and Carens will just roll off sweet ? Car parts or imported items are general more expensive as it is subjected to duty in Malaysia. It is duty free for all car part and consumable to encourage car owner to do regular car maintenence lor..... Min Ghee is getting expensive, try Fong Tat. Oil Filter S$4, SP X 4 S$12, FR Rotor - Alternate part S$60. Carens pick up and response is not very good, it is a heavy car. Compare to Corolla, Civic. But once it pick up momentum, it is really a nice car to drive......heeee Thin EO help to save fuel by reducing Pumping Loss ....... the energy need to move the piston and so forth .....
