helllo,
just recently, for my 2007 carens, when start the engine cold (i.e. in the moring, or in the evening after parking for more than 8 hrs), there is some noise from the engine bay. it sounds like some metal rubbing on metal. very irritating...
but after about several (<5) minutes, all the noise disappears. also, if just park the car for maybe 2-3 hrs, there will be no noise.
i guess it might not be the aircon related modules since the noise comes out with aircon and fan off. i am wondering if it could be something wrong with my alternator...
for all the past 5 yrs since 2007/apr, my carens serves my family very very with almost no big problem at all. but just after this 5 yrs mark, it firstly airbag lights up (changed the clockspring), then the abs lights up (changed the front-right abs sensor), now the strange noise from the engine bay...

Oh ....... water got into your tensioner, that little pulley that guide your belt. For me, no need to do any thing, when dry and the rust is grate off, it will be OK. I will not try to put any grease or oil to smooth it, the bearing lose off faster as the metallic dirt is washed off.

thanks, bro appletree. it indeed the problem with tensioner and the belt~
today i went to harmony motor, and that Ah Fu checked my car. advise to change the belt and together with the tensioner and 2 guide pulley. the belt is almost flat. and the tensioner looks not in good condition also.
now my carens is back to normal. hehe~

btw, bro appletree, this happens suddenly about 2-3 weeks ago. then it keeps this kind of noise when starting engine in the moring... till today, i really could not stand this irritating noise, went to harmony motor and get fixed.
it cost my $535 (inc gst). not sure if the price is reasonable...

Just changed my V-belt - the part number is confirmed 25212-25000. Took me half an hour to take out and 1 hour to put on the need belt. Need to take out right wheel, right headlight (optional), and a side mud guard. You will need a 17mm spanner - to pull the tensioner, 10mm spanner for most of the screw and nut. And a 19mm spanner to turn the fly wheel. Attachments:

Heeee........ got some free time man ........ can even save a dime or two. Good exercise ......hahahhaha Anyway, preventive maintenance. Ever have a snap V-belt and it can still drive on the previous ride at 80~90kkm. For Carens, if V-belt snap still can drive for 45mins @ 60km/h before battery flat or engine overheat or whichever come first. Wah... a major operation... you really a 'DIY man'... I don't think we have a valve lifter leh ......... it is probably your valve clearance is out. Actually, valve clearance need to be check every 40kkm. Just go to a workshop to have your valve clearance check. I thought your engine ever got overhaul ?? Go back to the same shop and asked for free check lor........ Hi Appletree, Since you have been DIY, just want to check with you, have you DIY to remove Throttle Body from Carens and cleaned it up ? If you removed it before, what is the special equipment to use for removing the 4 nuts connecting throttle body to the intake manifold ? And what are the connections to be removed from throttle body before the throttle plate housing can be removed ? I am wondering how to handle throttle position sensor...... Hi, I have not tried to remove and clean it before. I guess just remove the 4 mounting screws and the vacuum hose and the accel. line, disconnect the TPS connector. That all. Try not to dismantle any part of the throttle body. Those screws on the throttle body regulate the air flow when the throttle is fully closed. You will have the hard time getting back to the right position. The one controlling the air flow during throttle plate fully closed, I think it is called Idling-Air-Control-Valve. No, I shall not dismantle the Throttle Body, I am just thinking to remove this Throttle Body Assembly from Carens so that I can give it a good clean up by kerosine, acetone, or Carburetor Cleaner fluid.
