Ok now I've got a dilemma... My GF wants to drive the Pica to work, which is fine.... EXCEPT for the fact that after passing her TP test, she didn't drive for 1 year+ 3 months back I had the chance to borrow a friend's Picanto, she drove it for two times.... let's just say her basic safety checks all out of window liao Now my headache is, how to get her to improve the basics again? I asked her to go take professional refresher course but she feels it's not worth the money.... (4 lessons x $80 = $320) So that leaves me with the "personal practising method"... Which we can only do after work. And she was thinking of driving tomorrow to work liao so we're left with tonight to practise. Need some advise or any alternatives!! Thanks!

You sit as "instructor" asking her to go around the neighbourhood, talk like instructor, check this check that..etc....

You sit in while she drives ard tonite.
Let her get used to road conditions again ... give her little pointers from time to time. Try to help her regain situation awareness.
Most impt thing is .... can she park well w/o instructions?
If she can't then don't let her drive.

True, drive is easy, but if forgot to know how to park...erm...kinda a problem. I'm a new driver, yet i still learn to park correctly, safety and properly not to obstruct other drivers.

Thanks for the comments.... The two times she drove I sat beside and tried to be like instructor but she said I very fierce.... The thing is quite a few near-miss then I'm also quite scared.... so my tone also change accordingly.... And parking... think still can make it but take quite a while....

just tell her not to speed la. i also had a very long period of no drive before i got my car.
get her to wind down the window! it helps if u can hear the vehicles around u clearly
and really, the fastest way to learn to be safe, is the hard way. i learnt it by giving away my first kiss! ha..
hope nth of that happens to ur girl though! all the best!

Thanks bros..... for me if my own car damaged I not worried, but I more worried about other motorists... if hit a Merc/Audi/etc the cost of their repairs may be more than the Pica's price!! And of course there are the motorcyclists... if kenna them then..... I think I will ask her go more practise with me before she drives on her own bah.

bro most important is that she is confident and safe... tell her to always think ahead, stay focused.. no answering of HP or SMS or fiddling with radio... brake early and start off slow and easy.. kenah horn by pple for being slow nvm, as long as be safe can liao... tell her can drive like L plate, keep left and drive slow, might wanna dig out your triangle to display for a while..

Thanks iamsam bro, I already plan to get the 'golden' triangle, and I decided to accompany her to clock more hours of on the road experience before letting her take the journey to work by herself...

Yesterday 1st session on the road was fine, but when returning home at the MCP parking resulted in this: Kenna the pillar, she panicked when she saw some cars waiting for her to reverse in, and my fault was never warn her and ask her to abort parking and move off 1st to try again later. Guess we were quite tired around 1 hour + of driving around. Now to find a cheap place to fix this, it's quite a deep dent.

actually bro, parking is not a problem.. think we have all to get over the stigma of getting horned by pple.. it's okay to get horned... in fact, you can take 2 approaches to it..
1) bochap! everyone has to start somewhere, and if a leaner driver who is rusty needs a bit more time and a few more times to get into the parking lot, then so be it! not like getting horned by pple will have some serious consequences... no worries! tell her to ignore the waiting driver, treat it as there is no one there, no one is waiting.. just calmly put the car in the lot.. slow and steady, do safety checks and all..
2) if you were in the car, and pple horn at you guys trying to park, wind down your window and scold the #%&$#^.. tell him not like he's borned with the talent to park since young, everyone needs to learn and practice, be a bit more patient la!! no need to paiseh one!! safety more important..
guess if she gets over the kan cheong feeling when pple waiting for her to park her car, she'll be fine..

try not to let her park near pillar as a new learner. parking near pillar need more time to practise.

Rent out a car to practice. If possible, go to Malaysia and drive, your skills will be greatly improved.
