Ok, here's the story, got my auto cerato in 06.
Have been wondering if I made a 52K mistake. I dunno about the rest of the bros/sis but I've been feeling like the acceleration and response of the car is quite shitty. There was this funny symptom with my car, it refuses to rev pass 2.9K to 3K rpm smoothly. Went to C&C few times and naturally they said no problems with the car. I had given up until recently I read the QF tread of the picanto group. Went to search the net found some malaysia Kia's have also gone to do it. Found the reviews similar. After much consideration, I went to do it today.
Reached the place and this friendly tech offer to do the QF for me. It only took 5 mins. We went for a test drive. The result to me is damn spectacular. For the FIRST TIME, my car rev to redline with no problems. He stop and let me take over, I tried, almost want to tear already. The response of the throttle is really good.
I can't claim if the HP or Torque of the car has increased, frankly I don't care too. But one thing is for sure, the driveability of the car is about a 100 times better and I double confirm this on the long journey back to the east(The workshop was in the west). I can only conclude that the original KIA ecu mapping is crap.
So if any bro/sis feels that our cars are inadequate in terms of acceleration and throttle response, you might want to give the QF a try. 380 bucks seems alot but for me, it has help me to justify my 52 k decision.
(This is not a sales thread or an inducement to buy, I don't earn any commission. I just want to share with everyone about this because it has taken a crap load of my chest.)

Good review... May motivate some of our bros to 'indulge' in this mod... BTW, what is your engine setup?? AT or MT?

Thanks for your sharing, brother. I do agree with the QF, it will help to improve on the pickup and FC too as my car has gone through the QF too. Kia has made the effort to tune their every car to improve on the power but not compromise on the FC so they have to do a balance between power and FC. I would say that the pickup on the lower gear for Cerato is definitely better than the older model like Spectra which is tapping on Mazda platform and Mazda 323 engine. I used to drive my sister's 323 for few months and it suffer the same fate as my previous Spectra, the lower 2 gears has no power at all. I was so amazed when I test drive my Cerato, it feel much more powerful and the willingness to move off so they have actually done the effort to tune the ECU.

Yo members, Where can I get this QF thingy done? Will it affect warranty? Will if affect" check engine" light or other warning signals? I live in the West. Thanks. QF will be done at Harmony Motor and it will not affect your warranty, no engine check light will come up also. Even if you have done the QF, C&C will not be aware of that as the tools they used are just for diagnose purpose so you don't have to worry that your warranty will be void. The QF will only help your car on the pickup and gear ratio, it will not affect your engine in the long run as the values changed are still within the limit so that is why your engine check light will not come out. If more members are interested for this QF, I can talk to Harmony Motor to have the Group Buy Special Discount for SKC members.

guys, done my QF yesterday at Harmony motor. Here is my quick review. The flashing took less than 5mins but its not important cause its the result that matters the most. After the flashing, went for quick test drive. Not sure is it physological effect or what, felt the 1st to 3rd gear throttle response was improved. At that point of time, although can feel the improvement, but is not a very very drastic one.
Then, been driving from yesterday late morning till just now (including to JB to feed my cerato), i must say the improvement is definitely there. So not physological effect. Pickup from 1st to 2nd gear was really improved. I can even move on from stationary using 2nd gear. The most significant response improvement for my case was 3rd gear. Previously, when in 3rd gear, the car like totally no power and need long time to reach higher rpm before gear change. Then in 5th gear, when travelling at 100km/hr, the car was less draggy compared to before.
So in overall, this $400+ mod is worth the money. Best is that I pay by 12month citibank installment, so heart no pain as paying $30+ per month only instead of 1 lump sum.
The improvement gotten from this mod is far more superior than doing my SJ-CAI ($100+), denso iridium plugs ($60+), KNN air filter ($85+) and VS ($100+). Somemore this mod is no wear and tear one. Once done, its permanent.
So now, I will monitor the FC. I am trying my best to maintain my driving habit so not to misjudge the FC improvement provided by this mod. Its not easy though cause since yesterday, my right foot tends to be quite heavy liao especially when I am on my 3rd gear.

Driving a late Dec04 cerato manual. This should be the very first batch to reach our shores. This cerato is 100% stock condition. I find the engine pretty powerful in stock condition. The slow pickup is probably due to the gear ratio. The ratio at 1 and 2 is pretty close and short. The engineers at KIA might be thinking about the high body weight that the 1.6l engine has to pull when they are selecting the gear boxes.
To get the cerato up to speed fast, you have to be very quick with the shifting. The cerato is a powerful enough car for me. How often do you get to use 106bhp at 6k rpm?
