anyone had problem selling their cerato after driving it like for 3-4 years? I almost went down to C&C to sign a V2 premium after new COE announced (no big price drop so no point waiting) but my friend protested violently about difficulty selling it few years down the road. He told me that the best I can fetch is OMV + ~2K and 50-60% of COE after 3 years. Assuming I get a $14K COE for next bidding, OMV of Cerato about 13K? So after 3 years is 13 + 2 + 7 = 22K? Assuming I pay $54K for it now I would lose 32K!! if sell in 4 years will lose ~10K per year! I hope it isn't quite true. EDIT: Found out the formula for paper value. Assume after 3 years (36 months) Registered after Feb 08, Parf = 0.75 x OMV = 9750 Unused COE part = 84/120 X 14000 = 9800 Paper value = 19550. Dealer may add in 2-3K for body of the car = ~22K

Hi,I think almost all old car can't resale in the market.Almost all will get their paper value + body value. Hope I am not wrong. Anyway, all old cars regardless of brand will have no resale value and if the car is less than 3 years, it will be exported out to other countries and the resale price will be better. If it is less than 5 years then you still can get some body value when you sold it, it will be sent to scrap yard instead. It happens to all cars and even if people tell you that Toyota has better body value, it is true but you are paying more on the up front for the car price so it is back to square one. You pay more, you get more in return and if you pay less, you get back lesser in return.

Bro, tell u the truth, even the japs ride is ard 7-10k abv paper only. Comparing a japs which is 10 over thousands more tat only fetch u few thousands more on the body, think the depreciation is ard the same. Juz like wat Ben said, u pay more for a higher scrap value lo. Go test drive a few ride which is among the same $$, then u'll find V2 is really worth the $$ even compare to the nearest rival Lancer GLX. The re-sale is abt the same oso.
But no offense hor, if u'r trying to catch a V2 premium, i would advise u to go for Avante liao. At least the FC is slightly better even using the same engine as V2. I choose V2 bcoz it got manual transmission. ;D Juz my personal opinion only.

THe nearest rival I actually compared with Avante, used to think of buying the Lancer, but for the amount I pay, I could get a better one with the Cerato. Avante is like 4K more than the cerato for the same stuff. At the price of the Avante (Auto) basic, I'm actually getting the Cerato premium already.

Not surprising that Avante can get better FC as Avante is lighter than V2 cos it is following Japanese cars which try to reduce on the weight of the car. But nothing can deny that V2 can feel more power than Avante with its original Kia ECU tuning compared to ZERO tuning from Hyundai.

So Bro. which have you decided? actually decided on V2 premium already, was about to go down to sign the papers today, then came the strong reaction from few of my friends. Never seen such reaction from them before so I considering it again. Any other point is the COE will be dipping and I'm afriad to be whacked with a low COE as Kia C&C COE rebate for Cat A is only at 5-6K..........

Guess many members here have the same reaction from their friends or relatives when they want to buy a Kia Cerato or any Kia cars. But after they own it, they feel good driving it and no regrets buying a Kia.

Dealer may add in 2-3K for body of the car = ~22K What your friend said is just 50% correct. Car(be it korean or japan) before 2 to 3yrs are usually sell locally & the second hand value will depend on COE trend during the time u sell.Only above 3yr then export. Two of my colleages just sold -03 civic(A) this year(car body 7K) -03 corolla(A) this year(car body 8K) For japan car lancer GLX & sunny got no value. Car body value also depend on what next new car u buy.If u buy a car that agent profit higher they will be able to give u better car value so it is not always fix.(cos they can play about for the higher margin) I sell my 03 accent(M ) in 06 for 4K car body. For u infro auto car fetch higher value. And i sell my 06 verna(1.6M) this year for 33K.(paper value 18K only)Brought at 45k.Cos it sell locally so can get higher value base on market value & not scrap value. One more thing, ask a few dealer or SE when u sell your car. Even under same company, different SE quote differently. For my verna one SE quote 33K & the other quote 28K only. Another company SE also quote 33K so more or less around there. For avante 1.6M now selling at 47kplus if cng version is 46Kplus. No auto climate control & no leather seat but for leather seat can ask as freeies(less than $500 only) Hope i clear u doubt.

Think everyone should know this clear that KIA brand is not as valuable as those like Honda and Toyota. Resale value definitely way below expected.
Its just like mobile phones, resale value for Nokia is much better than LG... same concept...
As for me, I got my KIA cerato for such a low price as compared to other models, why should I be damanding for a high resale value? Worth buying and driving is more important to me... ;D
