Guys read this. CHeers... Poppet valves are used in most piston engines to open and close the intake and exhaust ports in the cylinder head. The valve is usually a flat disk of metal with a long rod known as the valve stem out one end. The stem is used to push down on the valve and open it, with a spring generally used to close it when the stem is not being pushed on. Desmodromic valves are closed by positive mechanical action instead of by a spring, and are used in some high speed motorcycle and auto racing engines, eliminating 'valve float' at high RPM. For certain applications the valve stem and disk are made of different steel alloys, or the valve stems may be hollow and filled with sodium to improve heat transport and transfer. The engine normally operates the valves by pushing on the stems with cams and cam followers. The shape and position of the cam determines the valve lift and when and how quickly (or slowly) the valve is opened. The cams are normally placed on a fixed camshaft which is then geared to the crankshaft, running at half crankshaft speed in a four-stroke engine. On high performance engines (e.g., Ferrari cars), the camshaft is movable and the cams have a varying height, so by axially moving the camshaft in relation with the engine RPM, also the valve lift varies wow, that sound very professional but rather hard for me to understand though. thanks for sharing princehong but seems like it has to do with engine rpm. wondering if QF can change the valve actions/response...

Valves are in the engine to let the air in and the exhaust gas out, part of the combustion process. if that's the case, QF should affect the valves timing as well, unless those are separate programs with fuel/air mixture and ignition timing...

I think that fuel/air mixture will change.. ignition timing I don't know.. What I'm interested is that for DOHC, they have 16 valves.. since our engine is SOHC, it should have 8 valves.. However, our engine stated that it have 12 valves.. So where are the other 4 valves? This is a bit difficult to understand, but good to know..

This is a bit difficult to understand, but good to know.. a 4 cylinder DOHC will have 4 valves for each cylinder, 2 air/petrol intake valves and 2 exhaust valves. (total 16 valves) as for a 4 cylinder SOHC, its having 3 valves per cylinder, 2 air/petrol intake valves and 1 exhaust valve. (total 12 valves) a smaller cc car will not require too much exhaust volume so that it will not lose out low end power. of cos, different car builds may have different combinations, all depending on manufacturers' calculations. found this webbie quite cool if u're interested in technical stuffs or diy. www.2carpros.comthey have interesting educational pictures too. Cheers!

Cheers! Oh I see.. Thanks for clearing my doubt kuremikio.. Now i understand where the other 4 valves are.. Going back to QF.. Now my 2nd tank mileage is dropping.. Something like back to normal.. I haven't pump yet but could see that I'm clocking a lower mileage compared to the 1st pump after the QF.. I'll have to wait for the next pump to calculate the average FC.. But I have been stepping on my accelerator every now and then just to see if there's any changes.. But of coz if want to step on accelerator, must do it safely.. So far I think the lower end feels smoother.. below 2.5rpm.. I have to admit that with the QF, overtaking is easier.. Vehicle has more power when fully loaded.. You can't expect ur pica to overtake other bigger cc cars when you are fully loaded.. What I meant is that at least you will have more power to use.. That means driving more enjoyable.. I'm looking forward to kuremikio's feedback at the end of this month..

Guess overall, QF works for most of the rides i heard so far.. individual preference. But tink it is quite a mod to invest in for the extra power n better FC... Ya devilcup, if u going to Harmony Chia Ping, jus look for Joey for doing of QF.. U will be there? My office very near there.. Haha, can go kaypoh? lol... Yep, hope to see all of u guys real soon...
