Hi guys,
My car is a Rio5 1.4L, mileage about 36,000km. I was driving today when suddenly, the engine checklight turned on, and my car and engine felt very wobbly and like no power. So i floored the accelerator to get home.
Upon reaching, it smelt like something was burnt. But engine oil, coolant was ok, no leaking oil also.
I called Kia, and the guy asked me what petrol i use. I've been using Shell 92 for the past 2 yrs, sometimes 95 when i can't find 92.
He said because i use 92, the ECU sensor got used to it when it doesn't burnt properly or something like that So now the sensor screwed up, and that's why the ECL is on.
Can anyone explain what he's talking about, cos i have no idea.
What should i do now?
Help appreciated!

it maybe due to any of the reason mentioned above or could be other problem that link to tis.... the best way is to bring to a trustworthy shop to check... C&C will 'carrot' u only....
this maybe a stupid suggestion, but its the efficient way to check it n solve it... IMHO...

Update:
I wanted to change my spark plugs, so i opened up to find out that 2 out of the 4 spark plug holes had water filled up.
The seal was slightly corroded
I've always had servicing done at Leng Kee.
I sent it to Leng Kee for servicing, will find out tomorrow what's going on

Help appreciated! hi, When engine check light come out, your ECU will change to safe mode program, like pc window in safe mode. All parameter will set to min setting, like rpm will run very low even u floor your pedal. To solve this, you need to know what the cause of engine check light to come out. If you want to try, i suggest u pump 98 ron petrol, let it mix with old petrol and drive for a while. Then you turn off your key on on back a few times, this might clear engine check light. Hope this can help you.

Did u put the provided cover? strange tht 2 of the plugs corroded ... tht side shld be clean clean one ... later u ask the tech to grease tht area, at least prevent accidental water from seeping in. how old is this car? how come 2 of the plugs corroded so fast? hmmm ... been chionging in the rain?

Thanks, i didn't know the ECL = SAFE mode, that's why my car like no power...
The car is 2.5yrs old only, no reason for the plugs to corrode.
My car can still run, is it still possible that water got into the combustion chamber? I very scared need to change engine.

Bro, go ask ur normal mechanic to see car. he will know wat to advise u. during ur past 2.5yrs, whenever u sent for engine oil change, did u change the spark plugs too? or u just pass the car to C&C n dont bother to check? i heard horror stories of agent mechanics didnt bother to change anything n pretend pretend to check n then pass back to blur blur owner ... when was the last servicing u went? a yr ago?

i dont think there is anything to do w the petrol, like wat the kia guy say. i hv being using 95,but sometime i'll try 92,98 and ever v-power.if like wat the kia guy say, than nt only me or u will hv the check light problem,i think all driver will face tis problem.
sometime those kia guys they'll juz tell u some crad, when they dont know wat's the problem.i think outside workshop is much better than them,

i last time also face before.. sudden e-brake and the ECL on.. car no power.. have sent to C&C twice on this problem and they said sensors problem.. what kind of sensors also never tell me.. haiz.. ..
As for spark plug.. it is better to have the engine cover on to protect against any water go in just in case when u wash car at petrol kiosk, they spray the water and it can go in...
