ya i'm facing the same prob too..... I believe that once the ECU detect the diff and the check light appears, it will reduce the fuel output, thus reducing the power of the car.... Is it true?

Confirm the extractor.. Im also facing it.. ECU detects malfunction at the O2 sensor due to de-cat and higher amount of gas flowing...

When the CEL appears, the ECU will be running on "Safe" fuel mapping; meaning it will run richer on fuel to protect ur engine. When this happens, performance will be reduced significantly and F.C will increase slightly too.

It's defintely ur after-market extractor that is causing this CEL. It does happened to me 2 yrs ago when I was driving my ex-Rio 06'.. I tried many ways to counter this issue, end of the day, I bought a O2 Simulator from U.S, and it works well for me. FYI, Rio 06' cars are running on CANBUS ECU, which is veri intelligent & sensitive to any changes when compared to rides wif OBDII ECUs. To know more, check out this web: www.o2sensorsimulator.com/

And if really this thingy had sumthing to do wif our ECU, can a piggyback solve it (i.e unichip 32 bits version b)heard dat this is the only piggyback that fits our ride. correct me if I'm wrong.

A after-market piggyback ECU like Unichip, E-Manage etc can't solve this CEL's issue, unless maybe u go for full standalone ECU.

Mine after abt yr the light came on too.. what I did is disconnect the ECU, wait for a while n plug it back.. after a while it will come back again. After reset it for few times, till now abt few mths liao so far didn't come on again. Hopefully it won't again as feel quite uneasy to see that thing light on when driving.

aye shouldnt you be fixing the extractor than doing bypasses or cheating the ECU that there's no problem?

Hi..this is my 1st post..I bought a 2nd hand KIA RIO 1 mth ago and now faces this problem of the engine check light ON. Does this mean my car have a mod extractor? Any brothers here can help me to check as I have no knowledge on car stuff. The car is suppose to go for its 3 years inspection this Nov 08 and I do not want to get in trouble for illegal mods. When I bought the car, the sales person did not informed me anything that was mod. I am just a family man who needs a car to ferry my kids around. Hope somebody here can help me. I live in Woodlands.Thxs.
P.S By the way, how do I disconnect the battery to solve this Engine Checklight ON problem?

Bro.welcome to this wonderful 'family' of KIA lovers. For ur case,i suggest u call ur SE and clarify things wif him. How long have bought? think if not more than 3 months, should still be under 'warranty' by them. 2nd options if u willing to burn some $$$$, i propose that u bring ur ride to any of our recommended workshop in this forum for a thorough engine check. from there u will know all the problems of ur ride. This is best as u got a 2nd hand ride.Just my 2cents worth. Happy Driving.

The car is with me for only a month. I know most of the time the SE will not bother once you already paid for the car. Anyway I am O.K to burn $$$ to go for a check on my car as it will give me a peace of mind. Where are the places you would recommend? Thxs.

u can go to this workshop at Lavender area, called Synergy Auto...its inside this old caltex petrol station, opp Eminent plaza...
look for Gary, let them do a check on your car....
just my opinion, if u bring to authorised station like Vicom, n found to have illegal mod, i think will have more problem n looooooong explanation to them...
