HI Guys, I been driving my Forte since 2009, recently noticed a knocking sound during my turns, it comes from the steering shaft or system. A mechanic told me its some electronic steering system which is faulty and its also common in KIA models. Apparently there is only one company who does that and even C&C sends the cars there to service the e/shafts. Price quoted to one KIA from C&C since warranty does not cover that is $2.8K, price quoted by the mechanic outside is >$1K.
I am curious to know if there are any bros or sis's here driving Forte who have come across similar problems, please share and kindly let me know how to go about the problem. I wanna be sure before rectifying the knocking sound problem in my ride's electronic steering shaft. Thank you!

I had similar problem as yours but dun know if it's the same. When the car is on the move, the knocking sound and the feeling not so obvious but when the car come to stationary or stop and when you try to turn you can feel that there's a strange feeling when u try to turn either side. I went to C&C to checked and they replaced 'column shaft assy' FOC cos my car was under warrenty for 5 years. I bought my car in November 2009.

Bro, u can buy the new part at min ghee $1.2k. Installation cost & aligment abt $300. Much cheaper than c&c. After install u need to calibrate the steering angle sensor. Through obd. Hopefully the ws u go to has the software. I just replaced mine last week. This problem is bound to happen for 2009 forte after 4 years.
Or u can check with this workshop. I found out after i replaced mine. They can overhaul the unit for about $500 ELITE CAR DRIVE SHAFT CENTRE at Blk 21 Sin Ming Ind Est #01-38 S575679 Tel 64820215

Went and had the steering 'knocking sound' fixed. Apparently it surfaces after a few years (bought my CF in 2009) due to the EPS. After 90KM standard servicing, change aircon filter, engine oil, changed wiper ($40 I think), fixed the steering knock (the most expensive component of the cost) and repaired the ABS sensor (another fault that surfaces after a few years), bill came up to over S$1400 after GST.
Hope that's an okay price to pay for not being able to get these 'dormant faults' fixed while under warranty (only had 3 years warranty). Kia should come forward and address these issues instead of keeping quiet about it.
Any bros had similar repair experiences? Care to share costs and experiences?
