The effect was better. silent roof during heavy rain & higher volume of air intake.

I also did my roof top but only did half (rear area only). I only manage to dismantle the back area and materials also just left that much. My boot area also did sound damping and heat shield. I think added total 4kg on my ride but worth it.

You will appreciate the quiet feel while driving in rain, also it somehow reduce some of heat from sun on day.
I used 3/4 inch thick full piece, dont think weighs that much, maybe a kg or less...

Agree on less disturbing sound..
Mine weighted that heavy is because of the boot and part of rear seat area with sound damping + heat shield. Roof top just put heat shield and is very light.

I'm not hardcore too. Hardly have spare time to DIY and just did this last month. The materials laying around at home for nearly 2 months. However, it is fun and fulfilling experience after each DIY session.
