went up to Cameron over the schl holidays... was cruising on left lane at 100-110 .... saw a road block after Macap r&r and mycar along with mostly 10 or so sg cars were pulled over to the side.... the traffic cop asked for our licences and returned shortly to my car and told me that i was caught speeding and he would issue us with a fine of 300RM.... i hesitated for a while and asked him where i was caught... he told me a few miles down the road supposedly i was doing 130kph... i looked at my wife and we both thought there goes our shopping budget!! But in my heart I was also thinking this cant be true cos I barely exceeded 110, let alone 130!
So the cop asked me... 'How, Sir, are you going to pay?" So i said to him "What to do, I will pay, what's the procedure?" '...and guess what he said next... " I give you chance, Sir! You can go now" ...Boy was I relieved!!.... and then it came to my mind that what they were actually doing with the SG cars was that they were trying catch those who offer bribes to buy their way out of the summons....
By the way, the drive up there took me from 615am leaving home to 4pm reached equatorial. Good drive and I took the new route via Simpang Pulai. Its quite an easy drive but I studied the maps earlier, for the important turns, bypassing KL and straight towards Ipoh, again bypassing Tapah. THe drive along NSHW after Tapah is quite nice with the mountainous landscapes. From Simpang Pulai, the route upwards to Cameron was quite a breeze and i only found out later how so much easier this new route is compared to the old Tapah route when I returned home via that route. The old Tapah route was very risky and effectively only 1 lane with countless hairpin loops where big lorries and coaches drive up...My kids got reallysick coming down the old route that we had to make a few stops and its really not worth the shorter distance because we took 2 hours to come down, exactly the same time we took to drive up via the new Simpang Pulai road even though that new road was further than the old Tapah route by 100km.
Nice cool weather up there with clouds passing by our hotel room from the balcony the view was breathtaking.... was our 5th trip there but my first self-driving one. Certainly a lot more development (unregulated, apparently) taking place and many more good makan places, straberry farms with kids-friendly eateries. Roadside markets and durian stalls in a few places and i just luvvv the sweet corn there. THose who want to drive up there, can let me know if you got any questions.
