Just change my battery today. I think dying because : a) Voltage only 12.4V, should be 12.8V minimum. b) When headlight is on, ramp to 2K rpm and release, the headlight will dim. c) Engine can crank but won't start. Sound like no fuel going to engine. Because cranking the engine take so much voltage dip, the injector cannot activate. Anyway found a reasonable priced battery. Osaka 75D23L 12V 60A. $105 NETT. Include Installation. Hong Brothers Tyres Battery Trading Blk 3014, Ubi Road 1 #01-280 S(408702) This is the cheapest I can find. Actually, over the phone the boss ask what battery model. I thought 55D23 and was quote 105. When I went there, he said should be the 75D23. Still 105. Good and Quick.....5min he changed the battery. Other quote I got : Poh Seng Tyres & Battery Rocket Brand $120 Korea (Stock Carens use this brand with KIA logo) Quite a nice guy. Over the phone. Yong Soon 392 Joo Chiat Road Volta $125 but 55D23 Some shop quote as high as $180 for Volta, OSAKA. My 40kkm at C&C cost a bomb.....advice me to change battery $160 (Before GST), Front Brake Pad $206 (Before GST). After paying 330 they don't even give free spark plug. And the worst part, ask my back alley mechanic to change, on checking the brake pad......still have 75% !!!! He put back without change the PAD.....so peiseh...give kopi money also don't want. Hope this info is useful. Please comment if I have bought a wrong battery. Attachments:

Today, doing self check on the engine. Found that my new battery Hydrometer window is cracked.
So I unscrew it and I can see the battery water. This is good news, can top water alredi......Maintence free battery do consume abit of water.
Maybe can extend the battery life.
Anyway, when back to the shop and they replace a new hydrometer free. Good service.

Happy CNY folks.. just wanted to ask.. what is your average battery lifespan.. i notice .. it is taking longer to crank start my car but the battery indicator ( used since July 2010) still shows green ( fully charged).
I recalled my last OPC getz was on the stock battery till the day i sold it.. ( 4 years) .. cant believe this one only lasted less than 2. Its a Osaka battery i got from Jalan besar.

Gong Xi Fa Cai !!!! The OSAKA not good leh ....... after half year kaput. They changed a new one for me FREE (another XYZ brand). Since Nov 2010 until now ........ OK. Sorry, did not update this thread........ Suggest you check voltage first ...... should be around 12.4 ~ 12.8V on a morning before engine start. If not, turn on headlight at night, ramp to 2K RPM and release, the HL should not dim. Today, my battery di'ed on me. Change to a Amaron 85D23L Change @ Kim Hoe (Eunos near Singpost) for $125. Is this cheap ? Our Carens uses the DIN55 Battery which is more expensive. The 85D23L has a higher rating and cheaper : 60AH 550 CCA 110 mins RC. Made in India. Hope this battery will last longer ......... Seems like it is Amaron season, everywhere is selling Amaron ...... It is not just India made, it is an India brand. Actually, in a state of panic, wanted to buy a Bosch or a Varta or something. Seems like all the shop offer this brand. So far my friends that use this brand generally last more than 2 year..... www.amaron.inFrom their website.... Use this chart to determine the State of Charge for a Deep Cycle Battery State of Charge Specific Gravity Voltage - 12 Volt Battery 100% 1.265 12.7 75% 1.225 12.4 50% 1.19 12.2 25% 1.155 12.1 This model 85D23L is an exact fit for the Carens OEM battery, the battery is cooler as the battery cover shield the heat from the engine. It is higher spec than the stock battery. Amaron has been selling pretty hot for some time. $125 is consider reasonable... Let us know how you find this indian made... Attachments:

I have done some voltage measurement on the battery :
a) Morning before engine start : 12.55V b) Lunch time : 12.65V c) Just after driving : 12.79V
So the worse is more than 80% charge most of the time.

My Carens has been using the same Amaron battery for the past 2 1/2 years with no issue. Previously used Varta which died in less than a year. AMARON FOREVER!!!
