Your 2 Din Sony that comes standard from showroom is blocked whenever you engage your gear and in order to watch your favourite DVD, you need to park and engage your handbrake..and this is so frustrating!! This is a security measures done by Sony to avoid the driver from watching the screen while the car on the move. But, i have found a way to tweak it without harming the unit and it can be done by yourself. I have known that maybe someone has done this either by himself or went to the accessories shop to get it done. But for those who like D.I.Y here is the simplest method that i have tried and tested and even agreed by my electronic engineer friend. Step 1 - Bend down yourself under the steering column and look for the green cable that connects to your parking brake switch and unplug it. This green cable is the cable that tells the unit to block the video when you engage your handbrake. Step 2 - Simply unscrew the nut that sits next to the switch, bring the green cable end, make a loop and "earth it" to the screw then tighten it back. Step 3 - Voila!! Your kids can enjoy straight away the Barney DVD while on the move!! Precaution by Sony - We, as the driver are not suppose to watch the dvd while our Carens on the move!! So guys, do the tweaking by yourself and save some money.

Accessories shop is charging $10 - 25 for this simplest job on earth.
As long as you know how to use the "Philip" head screwdriver, you are there to make it happen.

Hi SkyRay, i am bz overseas la..lot of work to do some more economy so slow.. Anyway, guys..i have watched one video about Kia Carens that hit 220kmh on German Autobahn!! I just can't believe it with my eyes and the guy steadily floor the pedal for almost 9 minutes!! His Carens is on CRDI engine stock standard. To check the video, just go to YouTube and type Kia Carens and watch it to believe.

Have tried following the instruction. Have separated the green cable from the parking brake cable and grounded the green cable to the screw. Though the DVD player is active while vehicle is moving, however the parking brake lights keep appearing on the dash-board even after it's released. I have re-connected the parking brake cable (yellow color cable) to the parking switch as originally is. Does anyone has the same problem?

I have read the manual for this DVD player when I got the car near 1 year back but just have not try. Guess this works and let me try this out. Thanks. By the way any of you tried that microphone jack out? I've installed mine but seems not working but have not check through the cable. Our system comes with a jack and an extension, you just suppose to plug it in. Suppose to but .... hahaha.

Hi nurbisa,
Could you help me on this too? I cannot find the green cable. Only saw 1 big BKK cable connected to the foot brake. Yet to try anything funny as I am not good with this. I know no more than filling the oil to the appropriate level.
Thanks.

Think the sony model should be able to. Has an option in it but did ask a dealer on the price of GPS. It cost as much as a set of GPS sold. So ........ hmmm........
