Just wondering what's the use of the O/D button & mode? If I'm not wrong, by default it is in the 'On' position....

auto transmission O/D function... by default it is On... pressing it is to Off the function.. to allow the gears to drop down by one gear... as the reduction in the gears, the rpm in each gear will go higher to achieve a slightly greater pushing force.. used usually during overtaking or needed a sudden "pick-up" force..

I have seen this topic aound for at least 5 times ever since I join the forum. Do a search bro. You can find the detailed discussion on the old threads..

Hi, I'm not checking on what is O/D.. Have read through the few previous threads and understand what is Overdrive.. Just to check how to use it..
Yesterday, I tried using it when going up a slope.. Not exactly a very steep slope, just try it to see how it feels.. I switched off the O/D while accelerating.. My gear was in O/D at that time.. Then the car downshifted with a small surge(Just like manual) and the power comes.. Is this the correct way to use it? Or do I have to release my accelerator, off the O/D then step on it again?
Thanks and have a good day..

On your Auto gear stick, there is a big silver button right? just some way below is a small black button, that's it.

Achieve higher RPMs for overtaking purposes.

Oh.. Thanks alot and our friends for your explainations.. At least, my pica won't shift into O/D gear when climbing up a slope.. Hmm.. What if you need a higher pickup when travelling on normal roads? Need to switch off O/D and switch it back when it reaches 3rd gear? Or step on the accelerator hard?

Btw, is it okay to switch it off while you are still accelerating???

can it's all up to you.. but if you're concerned about FC then don't off OD.. let it slowly slowly pick up.. but take very long.. hehe.. up to you lorh.. it's all like that..

oic.. yeah it's something like that... so it depends on you.. if you don't like the feeling of getting overtaken or slow pickup then open the throttle a bit before the car changes gear into 4th.. or if already in 4th and revs too low, off O/D for a while lo.. or off aircon.. around the same effect lol..

Hmm.. I got the same experience as you.. Took some time to get from 0 to 60km/hr, but after 60km/hr, the acceleration is actually quite alright.. But I feel that light acceleration doesn't mean low FC for auto pica.. you see.. If you are really light-footed, the O/D gear tends to engage at a low rpm of 1.5rpm.. If you need acceleration, you got to accelerate hard to let it downshift.. However, if you can maintain adequate pressure on your acceleration pedal and let it shift between 2 to 2.5rpm, by the time you reached O/D, you will be travelling at 60km/hr or more.. I don't really know how to describe it, but I feel it makes the engine more efficient in this way.. My theory is not proven, what do you think?

sounds pretty correct though.. the idea is to operate the engine at the optimum point.. which is about 2400rpm.. so maintaining the right throttle input might give better FC.. even though it is not exactly featherfooted..

I tried using the O/D button a few times.. Quite useful, esp when I need to climb slope.. Using the O/D off and you can accelerate up to 3rpm easily, and it won't change to the O/D gear..
Hmm.. I was thinking, how do you make an auto pica accelerate faster? Press the pedal all the way? Will switching off the O/D help?

I tried before. O/D 'boost' will come into effect above 60km/h. It basically allows the engine to spin up to higher RPMs, thus giving more power for overtaking purpose.
But for mountain climbing, I felt nothing.

But not fuel economy, by the way.

?? O/D boost??? O/D gives less acceleration leh... when you switch it off then you'll get more acceleration.. think you mean all those things when you switch off the O/D la.. yea, above 60km/h then there's use to switch off O/D
