Hi All Sportage Owners, I am thinking of getting the Sportage. Need you guys' advice before the final decision. - Is this car reliable? Anyone had break-down experience?
- How's the build quality? After 1 year, are things start losing, cracking?
- How's the fuel comsuption?
Read the thread of FC but can't figure out what you guys are talking. 320KM per full tank means what? The car's tank is 58L, do you mean you get 5.5KM/L? I will be happy if can get average 8~10KM/L. Anyhow, I still liked the car a lot. It's style and space. Anyone can recommend a good KIA sales engineer? Sportage is priced even higher than TUCSON now. Just visited Ubi showroom last weekend. Selling price is S$62,999. Need advice how much can negotiate and what freebie can get? Thanks in advance. Can't wait for joining the Sportage Owner Group.

Hi steve, I can answer some of your quesrions. Qn:Is this car reliable? Anyone had break-down experience? Ans: I would say yes, mine will be 2yo come Jan. No break downs, only did normal servicing, now reached 45,000km. Qn:How's the build quality? After 1 year, are things start losing, cracking? Ans: Quality wise I find it acceptable, no cracks or rattling after almost 2 years. Qns:How's the fuel comsuption? Ans: I avg 8.5km/litre, some other owners get 9km/l, some even 6km/l. It depends on how heavy is your right foot onthe accelerator. Thats about all i can help with. Bernard

More than 1 and a half yr old now. No breakdown. Sportage is my 1st Korean car, initially I'm kinda worry too. But I didn't regret getting one since. So far so good.
Going up to Cameron is "chicken feet"
It's only this car a bit heavy, FC for me around 7KM/litre.. or when I pump full tank (abt 46 litres). It can last me abt 320KM. Then again, like what Bernard said, it depend on yr driving habit, some owners here can even clock 500KM for a full tank, seriously, I don;t know how they drive. Maintain at 2500rpm? no way for me. Too slow will "spoil" the engine ;D. Don't think about abt FC if drive a Korean car especially a Sportage.
One thing, body is tough. I once got a side/side accident with a saloon car. That car terribly dented. My Sportage just scratches only. I use auto glym on the scratches, and it's gone. Seriously, good as new.
Sportage & Tucson same wheel base and engine. The diff is the design. Own preference.
Anyway, no matter a Sportage or Tucson. We always have regular road trips & meetup together. Just like cousins.

Thanks Bernard and Kit for your quick positive feedback! I autually hope not hearing much bad news as I really like the Sportage. Now just want to get a good deal from C&C. Shy to say I am the first time car buyer. Don't know any tricks in this business. Any tips for geeting a good deal are welcome!

I can only provide you with 1 tip, which is holds true at most car showroom. After you have seen the car, DO NOT use your driving license/NRIC to go for a test drive. Why? Because they will enter your information into the system and it'll be 'tied' to the sales person. This way, even if you return to the showroom another day and approach another sales person, the sales will go back to the employee who had served you before and arranged the test drive for you. (meaning, you are sort of locked to the SE and in a way lower your bargaining power) I would think the actual dollar discount might not vary much, but you can try to ask for additional freebies like, tinted window, side steps, DVD HU, etc?? Its all down to your negotiating skills... Bernard

Also don't be anxious even though you're ready to buy the Sportage. Let them know you can't decide the Sportage or Tucson. Then bargain power higher.
If you don't mind, look for sales @ C&C Alexandria - Johnny Wong. He's my personal friend.

I have actually tested the car last weekend by giving my driving license. The SE was not giving good service. The attitude was like if you like Sportage, just buy it, no point compare with Tucson. Hope I won't be stuck with the same SE. Kit, don't mind give Johnny's contact number? I will go down to Alexandia this weekend. But don't tell your friend I like the Sportage. ;D

small world ... i got my new ride from Johnny Wong also ... kinda refered by a mutual good friend ... honest sincere and reliable is what i can say .... only thing MUST say your reference(as in who referd you) then can negotiate more... been about one to 1.5 month since i picked up my new ride ... now clocking abt 3500km ... average about 9-9.5km/liter for a full tank. i've 'converted' my co-pilot to b a light footer ... therefore saving lots on the fuel .... Word of advise to you .... send your servicing ONLY to the Leng Kee service center ... and not to the Pandan branch .... i'll leave that story for another time whne we meet up .... their mess up compromised my family's driving safety ....

sori bros for the late reply ... basically, when i picked up my new ride abt 2 mths ago (or less), they owe me the LED side mirror ..no stock liao ... so when the stock finally arrived .. my co-pilot arranged to get it installed a day aft the massive down pour (wednesday) ... it took abt hlf a day (i was recalled to serve the nation... i called it tax rebate).
All seemed fine, when my co-pilot picked the car up n drove off ... she then realised that the clock was resetted ..so was the Trip "A" and "B". Called the PD and asked what happened .. it was only than that they said there was a blown fuse n they changed it ... and that was it .. no further explanation ...
two days later, friday afternoon, i was in the car (finally out processed !!!)and realised that the clock was resetted .. or rather it was like 3 hrs late ... no one adjusted it ... so i didnt think much of it either.
Co-pilot droped me off at home to go pick up my two kids at parents plc at Bukit Panjang at about 830pm .... she than called me abt 9pm saying that the door lock auto lock n unlock itself, dashboard light went off, headlights went off .. all this when the car is in motion on the high way ... she turn the lite switch on n off ... n got the lite back on ..... got to the parents place ..called me again ... remote lock cannot lock the doors!!! manual also cannot lock ... Wah lau I KNN panic .... road condition was wet (thank god it was not raining) and co-pilot had to drive home in the car with the two kids! She quite steady .. manage to call the C&C tow service to meet at my place to tow the car back to the service center ... but all this while putting a brave front so the kids dont freak out ...
To cut the long stor short .. LK mechanic found out that there was a blown fuse and that the LED mirror wiring was tapping off from the wrong point ... thus probably causing an overload of some kind .. and the wiring also not done rite causing the intermittent connection.
I spoke to their Snr Ops manager, Mr Zulkifli and Mr Andrew as well ... saying that negligence and lack of professionalism compromised the safety of my family .... i put to them that my total cab fare was $20 ..n i intend to claim as i have the taxi receipt ... Andrew was nice enough to offer me $30 shell petrol vocher and 2x$6 shell hand car wash instead ...
I reiterate to Andrew that the PD folks damn f$%k-up bunch ..irresponsible ... he said he spoke o the manager at that branch, Derrick, i think abt this matter ...

Forgot to mentioned .. i followed the tow truck back to the workshop (abt 2230hrs) ready to rack havoc in order to get hold of the duty or Service Manager's contact number from the security or whoever is working late in the office ...... cos if no one look into resolving my car on the following day ...a saturday ... means the x'mas weekend is gonna be a complete washout for me and my family ... But i was disappointed .. the Security folks were excellent!!! Helpful, understanding and polite .. i think they pity me ... and offered the numbers to help me contact the manager...

Thats quite serious, I also had problems with Pandan too. went there with Foglights problems and they told me they will check with KIA headquarters in Korea and they would call me back. It has been 6 months, and no call from them... I think they are still walking on the way to Korea thats why it is taking them so long....

Hi Steve I have a 2 yr old Sportage. It drives well. F.C = 7.5 Two cases so far: 1. Minor rattling taht was caused by a little crack on the device holding the filter. (It was replaced after 6 weeks of waiting for the part). 2. Squeking sound when turning the steering wheel. (Will be bringing in to have it replaced within the month). Other than that, I really like the car.

All your fault! 6 months is enough for them to drive it back to factory, get it fixed and drive back liao! If you leave your car there, it'll probably be fixed and returned to you maybe next week. Hahaha Bernard

If these things can happen in Pandan, It can happen in LK too. These are all human errors.., I would say stupid errors. I did not bring my car back to Cheat & Con after the 1st 2 free servicing.

Hi guys, don't C&C require you to have your car serviced by them in order to enjoy the warranty? Most car distributors requires that.

hmmm .... so far ... i think only me still going back to Cheat & Con for servicing ... basically i did for a peace of mind ... but frankly ... its becos LK is near my work place ... the damage ranges from SGD200 - SGD400 ... problems still not solved .... car pulling to one side & vibrations at speed of 100km/hr ... reason given ... aftermarket sports rims ...

I think you are the only one that had all the mods and getting registered in C&C system. BTW, having whats the size of your tyres? Oversized(read broad) tyres can cause your vehicle to pull to either side of the road. Especially if the additional load on the CV/Ball joint wears it out prematurely. If thats the case, having your wheel alignment checked will be next to useless, as they can adjust it to be as accurate, but lower your car back onto its wheels, hoist it up again, the alignment will be out again..... Maybe you can try T-loan someones rims + tyres and drive around in your car. Straightaway can confirm if its due to rims & tyres. Bernard

Hi guys, don't C&C require you to have your car serviced by them in order to enjoy the warranty? Most car distributors requires that. If they really want to void warranty. They can penalise on a lot of things. They'll penalise on even changing to KNN air filter. They'll ask why didn't u use the stock air filter"?? If u pump 92, they'll penalise you that 98 & abv is the minimum requirement. Todate, I'm not sure what kind of warranty I need from them? If breakdown, go somewhere & repair loh. Afterall, my car is not as complicated as a Boeing A380.
