Hi Joey, my v2 (4 and half yrs old, 65k mileage) has this aircon problem. During cold starts, I turn on the aircon and the compressor can be heard kicking in. There is air from the vent but its not cold. I have to off the aircon either by turning the knob or by pressing the AC button, then turn it on again to have cold air. This only happens during cold start and after that everything normal. What could be the problem?

Looks like you have a sticky Expansion/Block Valve problem. I would suggest that you do an aircon system flush. Market price is about $180.00.

It could be that too. Do a physical check by looking at the Aircon Compressor while you get someone to turn on the Aircon by pressing the AC Switch.

Hi Joey, can I ask what's the difference between aircon flushing and evaporator cleaning?

Aircon Flushing purpose is to flush out the old oil and thus bring along with it the contaminants. It is like kidney dialysis. It does not involve dismantling of any parts. Effectiveness will be 90-95%.
Evaporator cleaning may means the dismantling of it (another name is cooling coil). Injecting cleaning agent like benzene and blowing it clean. However, to remove the Evaporator, most of the makes will need to dismantle the Dashboard. Therefore the labour cost is much higher. Most likely when you need to do this process is because of external dirt like fungus and mold which will erode the aluminium core of the Evaporator and also has great hygiene problem. This method will not be suitable for aircon internal circuitry problem (like contaminant and lubricant problem).

Did my aircon flush yesterday at Harmony Jurong. My observations:
1) Aircon is much cooler. 2) The 'hissing' noise is reduced. Although I know the noise is unrelated to the aircon flush, but at least there's some improvement. Let's hope that it continues in this way.
In addition, the blower of the aircon fan is detected to be faulty. After replacement:
1) When the aircon fan is started, there is minimal vibrations. Finally, I found out the culprit that is responsible for all those vibrations. 2) The noise from the aircon fan is greatly reduced.

It has been 2 weeks since the aircon flush is done and the aircon blower motor changed. Aircon is now cool throughout the journey. It used to be cool at first but becomes warm after a while. It isn't really warm until it blows out hot air, but just not according to the temperature set. It does not affect me, but the rear passengers. Now the aircon is kept at a constant coolness throughout the journey. The vibrations and dimness of the headlamps, a problem which I have been trying to solve all along is now minimized. Perhaps, I should have done the aircon flush earlier..
