Gov also coming up with extra charges for buying 2nd car on top of COE, if that works, it should push price further down. Hmm.. Don't think so leh.. Those who can afford 2 cars are usually rich. The additional cost don't deter them unless it's a significant amount.. well, my family own 4 cars.. a nissan fair lady (aunt buy for show), a 7 seater and 2 vios, excluding my soon to get pica... all registered under whoever name that can get the best quote for insurance at the time i think all on the same household here... BUT if that new system is in place before we buy the car and are applicable to us... i think i won't see that fair lady and one of the vios... Of course thats for me i guess..

It depends on your budget. But a KIA Picanto can last a long time. A guy I know has a Picanto from the late 90s and it runs. He put in a lot of work though.

They impose taxes for owners with 2nd car then out with setallite erp to replace road tax then still the rich favours coz they save thousands of $$ for road tax on every car (normally abv 2litters)which they seldom use.if want might as well limit the number of car tat 1 can buy to 01 unit only....

It's impossible to apply blanket policy to stop people from owning a second car. Those who really need a second car will go Hong Lim Liao...
But in sure they can do more to deter the rich from buying extra cars tht were only put on show in their garages. I think the first step is to increase their maintenance cost, real increase, road tax, surcharges, insurance, etc. next up additional income taxes for 2nd vehicle.
Another way is to allow only 1 car per NRIC. So a couple can still possess 2 cars, which all other additional costs still apply.. They wun have a choice of whose name to use for buying insurance then... Restrictions! ;P

I recently did some calculations and it is worth getting a new car, because of higher fuel efficiency and maintenance costs. I am saving up for new KIA.

It's true that a used ride has a higher maintenance costs. This is especially true when the ride has crossed the 80K mark. Timing belts, brake pads, drum brakes all need replacement when required, whereas a new ride is generally free from all these replacements for the first 80K or so. However, one must take note that a new ride does not mean it's more reliable than a used ride.
There is more flexibility in terms of a used ride, that is you can go to any WS you like assuming that your warranty has expired. You can also choose to change the parts of your ride. If you like a certain type of air intake, you can change. Brake disc, also can change. Muffler, also can. Anything goes as long as it conforms to regulations.
I know it's off topic but just a comment..

Happen to see this thread on renewing COE. PQP now in Nov 2014 is about 64k. Was thinking to renew 5 years for 32k since my Jan 2005 Picanto is still in good shape. Been driving for about 5 year plus, mileage is now is 116k after 9 year 11 month. If I were to renew COE, I will probably replace some parts to renew the car condition as well.

Mine is approaching 170K km, hence i am very certain yours is good to go for another many thousands of kilometers. I did change my clutch plates at around 130K km i think. Renewing it would be a good choice anyway. The Picanto is really a good car. It has surprised me many times in my rather short 4-year ownership.

Yeah, clutch is one of the few parts I'm looking to replace. Although the current still work fine, i'll just replace it. Planning to replace brake pads (front and rear), brake fluid, gear box oil, engine gasket, clutch, fuel filter etc.
