My second thread, please bear with me.
My clutch biting point seems to be right at the edge, hence engine tends to die off when not careful with moving off, or kan-cheong. Was informed by a WS that i have to change the whole clutch assy, which would set me back by about $300-$350 SGD.
Is this the only cause? Is there such a thing as adjusting clutch free-play etc?
My car is Y2006, and its mileage now is around 132K kms.
Please advise. Thank you.

Is it a knob which i can reach to by myself? Did you change you clutch assembly before? I took over the car at about 80K km, so no idea if ex-owner did change it before.

Yes you can actually adjust your clutch free play.
But since you don't know when did the previous owner change the clutch, I suggest you change the whole clutch assembly then you start to monitor your car.
For me I normally change everything between 60-80k I will change clutch assembly together with the timing belt and water pump
Clutch assembly should be less than $200 from Min Ghee Water pump set and timing belt set also less than $200 from Min Ghee
Then go to a workshop that charge labour only. Sometimes when they take out the engine they can find out if the oil seal is leaking etc
The reason why I am so kiasu is because my clutch cable broke during the traffic light. Imagine my clutch cable broke when I am travelling at 80km/h.
Furthermore to engage a tow service is around $80 onwards. Then you have to wait for the car at the workshop and its really inconvenient as it breaks your schedule.
Its better service your car such that its less likely to break down in the middle of the road.
I'm speaking based on experience...

JJ you are totally right. Stuffs that doesnt stop car when damage aint completely critical. All doesnt want to exp burst tyre / brakelines, broken driveshaft / timing belt, etc.

I had just changed my clutch calbe and realised that the bitting point is very high. I know there is some adjusting knob (star shape) just beside the engine right hand side (facing the car). But i am not not sure how exactly to go about doing it. Is it just turn the knob? Hope somebody can help me... tks

Tks, bro. Do you remember is it clockwise or anti-clockwise to lower the clutch level.
I also recall that one workshop told me not too good to lower the clutch level as the clutch will get damage more easily. How true is it?

My clutch finally slipped on my way back from KL on Sunday. Happened near Malacca exit at 150kmh on Lane 1 and i can tell you it was no fun at all! Thankfully, i still managed to claw myself back to SG at 100-110kmh, RPM not exceeding 4K on 5th gear.
Paid $330 for the change of clutch (assy) and another $75 for the drive shaft. Now the biting point is very near and will need time to adapt to it.
For info, my mileage is now at 145K km. Not sure if this is the first time clutch (assy) is being changed. I took over the car at 80+K km.
