Hi Bros, My timing belt is due for replacement. I went to a workshop and they quoted me to change whole set (ie belt, fan, pump etc) @$600+ Question is: Is it necessary to change the whole set? or just the belt alone is sufficient? And any workshop to recommend? TIA!

i just change my timing belt package inclusive of labour at $450 exclude GST. change timing belt, timing bearing, timing oil seal, camshaft oil seal, water pump, thermostat, rocker cover gasket, coolant, aircon & alternator belt and aircon belt.
Not sure what the use of thermostat changing. Seem like aircon much cooler but pickup and moving off seem slower then before changing. Anybody had such issue after changing timing belt or it takes times to let the belt get used. Not clear on this

Thanks everyone for the contribution! Went to change mine today. When changing, my mechanic discovered one of the gear located at the left side of engine was damaged to wear and tear, which could affect my acceleration, braking etc. In the end, had to fork out 1k+ to weld, lift engine and replace camshaft. And my mechanic recommend me to do piston cleaning and change of rubber tubings behind the engine. Another 1k. My car mileage is close to 100k. Not sure its a ripoff or what. Hais.. Ws starts with "s" and located at paya-ubi.

CORALIFE - No belt improve performance. But the tension of alternator/powersteering belt if too tight does add load to engine.
PICACHU - take a photo n keep damaged parts for verification. Piston dont require cleaning, but performance will improve about 5% if piston head polished. As for rubber tubings, as far ads I know theres only a fuel return fumes line from fuel tank which will break frequently, cost below 10 bucks. Not sure if any other tubes require to change.

lift engine is labour intensive, have to dismantle gearbox probably. I also changed my engine oil seal and some other rubbers. cost me around $800, no choice engine oil leaking rapidly...

club21zWah $800 is very expensive man.... The rubbers you mention don't cost much. I think they overcharge you I just went JB for a full servicing Brake front and back Clean radiator, change coolant Timing belt Water Pump Clutch Assembly Power steering Gear Oil Bulbs Change the rubber also as my engine oil is leaking Buy parts myself and install in JB. The labour is around $200

Usually around 80K. But some wait till 100K then change. It depends on individual preference.
