Hi Kia brothers/sisters, I have been a member for few years but never post anything before, just kept on reading and absorting info.. Finally I have a question to ask all and I hope to get some advices, TIA! Currently driving a Jan 06 Rio HB 1.4A with a mthly instalment of $542. Thinking of downgrading to a smaller Picanto cos I only have a daughter and i feel we don't need a Rio which is quite high on FC. Still owe my bank 20k for car loan. And I am keen in a Jan 08 Picanto with a mthly instalment of $613. The attractions of course include lower road tax and insurance fee. Should I go ahead?

Hmm.. I think you should try out the Picanto before committing to the purchase as it will be a few years of instalments.
Best if you can rent one and use it for about a week and see if its suitable for you. In my opinion, it's not worth it because the road tax of rio and pica does not differ a lot. And road tax is once in a year thing so you don't really save a lot.

picanto is not very good on FC too. running cost of 1.1 and 1.4 not much difference. better to keep the rio. the savings you get will hardly cover the transactional costs of buying and selling a car.

No problem. Just think it through carefully before making your decision. However, there may be some of your friends who will encourage the change. But ultimately, it's your choice. Cheers!

Go with what you can afford over the next few years.
I think paying more monthly for a smaller car is not worth the trouble at all.
if you have not done regular maintenance, maybe it time to do it and give the car a fresh new life!

Then another factor you should consider is if your ride has no major problems (except for wear and tear), I use no reason to sell it away. You monthly installment is lower and your ride is bigger than your next ride.
Like what tinytok says, if you have not done the maintenance, it's time to do so. Even if you get a used ride, you may need to do more maintenance because you won't know its servicing history.

I agree. You should rent the other car for a road trip and see how you like driving it. What is the handling like and the mpg. I think if there is no mechanical issues with your RIO you should keep it with cars it is safer to keep what you know then get a mystery you have to figure out. I like to keep cars for a long time.

How long your posting? Daughter going along bo?
I think now sell car, v hard to own one again leh. If short term, maybe just keep?
Back to your original query, you must understand your daughter can only grow bigger!!

I think theredstar mentioned a good point. If it was a year, probably you can let your family members drive it. But it's 3 years and above, probably there's no need to keep it. But cars can only get more expensive. Do think it carefully before making your decision..
All the best in HK!

I think you should make the trade. Fuel cost can make a huge difference in your monthly budget. The Picanto saves me money on gas and it is an easy maintenance car. I recommend it.

Hi bro in my opinion keep the car if not going for long overseas posting. But if its a couple of years. See if you have and relatives who is interested in taking over your loan. And drive your car. Hard for singaporeans to get car in the future.
