Hi bros, would LIke to ask for your advice:
I changed my tires two weeks ago to hankook 175/55r15 from 195/45r15. it was after this that I have severe up and down vibration on floorboard and front of car from 75kmh to 90kmh. anything above or below is ok. thought it was bad balancing so I went to uncle jimmy at creative to do both wheel balancing and high speed balancing. however, problem remained. did it a second time with them after coming back from overseas trip. I did for all wheels. I saw both ah Hong and uncle jimmy doing their best to balance them, but the look on their face tell me no use. true enough I drive on bke problem still there.
I happen to go to Loyang autobacs to buy headlights and so decided to try my luck as they seem to have a hunter machine. the vibration is reduced now but it now seems to vibrate from 68-85.
my old boss who drove a picanto told me it could be a driveshaft issue, but other people says it is either balancing or tires with runout/not round.
any advice or experIence you bros can give/share in this issue? I have to drive real slow now for time being( <70)

is it only front wheels? Use your spare tyre as a trouble shooting aid to isolate the problem. It may be tyre out of round or some manufacturing defect that cant be balanced out.

Unocvin bro: I don't have a spare for the current 15" wheel... it's still the original 14" one... think I should remove it to save some FC Bro Gresini: will try that. Thank you!

Thanks for following up bro Gres, I asked around my friends and none of them run with 15" rims... I remember the vibrations weren't that bad when the rims had less counter-weights in them so I used a pliers and pulled them all off for both front wheels. Much less vibrations but the car did seem wobbly. Ended up heading down to the Stamford tyres woodlands branch last Sat. Had both front wheels balanced and now there is no longer any severe shaking/vibrations though there is still a mild perceivable one in the 75-85 range. Mechanic did check the wheels for me (back ones too) and said my rims may be a little out of shape though I couldn't see it. (seemed an honest fellow... did not hard sell anything though he mentioned a rim promotion for $400) He also mentioned Korean tires inherently have these problem with not being round (run-out?) So until I can have my rims replaced, I'll just have to suck thumb at driving between <75 and 85-90 lor

Bro, I have the same problem with vibrations.. but mine is 80km - 100km region. I changed from 15s to 14s 175/60/14 Kumhos. Was told my rims were abit out of shape too.
I reckon its either the tyres are Out of Round or maybe its a mechanical problem with my car (drive shaft perhaps?).
Any ideas to know if tyres are out of round? or what other mechanical problems can cause the car to vibrate?

Bros an update: I changed my rims from 15"-6.5 to 15"-5.5 yesterday at Stamford (Woodlands branch... very few people) after seeing they had an offer for their SSW Replica rims... and the vibrations are gone! In all, $80 per rim after trade in so $320 damage in all... maybe you'd like to try that too Jase bro? Think I'll have to avoid M'sian roads from now on if I can

Woodlands branch very ulu and quiet one. Saw their rims before, designs not so nice.
Looks like 175/55r15 works great with 5.5 inch rims.

tks for sharing. I remember when i had my 1st car and after market alloy rims were heavy, unlike the current obsession with weight savings. Perhaps something to learn there, too light a weight may suggest a less strong strutural design of the wheels? I read in one forum (can't remember which one) a japanese magazine tested "light weight performance" vs standard performance wheeels around a track. Interestingly, the lighter weight turned in a slower time, which was attributed to the wheels being "flexy", too much deflections. Similarly, in yet another forum I read, an experienced auto-x'er commented in using a particular brand's light weight wheels, he could feel a worse difference to his usual set of wheels. So maybe too light (with less material) may compromise real world driving on bad roads. Or we can use taller tyres with lower pressure to bounce and absorb road imperfections ...

And it's the closest lookswise to my previous set. Ya, the Hankook website says 175/55r15 is ideally meant for 5.5. Can feel a difference from 195/45. Here's a Pic:

Very interesting points bro! In my car's case, I think the previous owner really tekan the car in M'sia... with its low profile 195/45R15 tyres I think running over even a small pothole/road debris at >60 is bad enough to dent it to the point vibrations would be felt. These were also replicas so you get what you pay for... Turned out 3 out of 4 rims were dented... the previous owner couldn't be bothered to change them, so he (or maybe the SE) just used a black marker (?) to paint all the kerb rash away... since it was gunmetal black, I didn't notice it until after a few car washes... I was like NB man. Didn't notice. For me, when buying used car, engine condition and trans more important...should have ask him give discount

hmm.. possibly. Expensive to troubleshoot ley.
I just changed the tyres.. Dun wanna change rims to discover the tyres are Out of Round or the driveshaft got problem.
By the way, sometimes when i drive over humps or uneven road, can hear "knock knock" sound...

I took the risk and quite happy as it solved the problem. May you'd like to take bro Gresini's suggestion of swapping a friend's rim with yours to troubleshoot if it's really your rims causing problems?

Gresini, thanks for you advice.
If I go over hump, the car bouncey, wobbly plus got "knock knock" sound, is it my ARB Linkage or my shock absorbers or both?
Btw, I can get the ARB linkage at minh ghee I suppose?

I got mine from them. Check before changing. rock the car sideways and get a friend to touch it. If got feeling, change.
