Hi
I just got a picanto abt a month back for my wife. So far ok only today suddenly got problem that the engine vibrate badly when in gear. Got to send it in for a checkup hopefully nothing major. I got a few queries abt the pica wondering if the pros here can advice.
1) what is the usual idling rpm? For this car, the rpm is almost near to 1 not sure if its normal or high
2) i saw in the engine bay there is this Ultimate sparks thingy. Anyone can tell me what is this n whats the purpose?
3) my fc so far not so gd. My wife only drives abt 15km a day in start-stop traffic so full tank at most can reach 300km. Monitor further see if any improvement
4) my central lock does not seem to include the boot, i.e when i unlock the doors the boot remains locked, need to use key. Is this normal behavior?
Thanx folks

1. Idling RPM is about 1K. healthy
2. Ultimate Spark is a spark plug booster. Leave it there unless ur car engine stalls for no reason.
3. start stop traffic 300km full tank for auto is fine.
4. need to see ur car alarm. some don't include.

300km full tank is bad.. My previous AT pica could go up to 400km and average about 380-390km full tank, city driving.

I think worst FC in city driving should get you to at least 330km. Normal should be around 350km. If lesser city driving can get 380km minimum.

Can check with CnC on the alarm lock settings. Sometimes they did not set it correctly. If not, it may be a good excuse for u to change your alarm system hehe...

As for your FCC it's better to check it out. If chg EO no improvement, it could be spark plug issue. Chg ur spark plug may help. If still doesn't, maybe try looking into ur ecu...

Hi TS, my personal opinion for your ref. Mine Pre F/L 2007 registered.
1) what is the usual idling rpm? For this car, the rpm is almost near to 1 not sure if its normal or high Mine 1k with ac on, abt 800 without.
2) i saw in the engine bay there is this Ultimate sparks thingy. Anyone can tell me what is this n whats the purpose? No comments as I dont use such gadgets.
3) my fc so far not so gd. My wife only drives abt 15km a day in start-stop traffic so full tank at most can reach 300km. Monitor further see if any improvement 6am 40km, 1pm 40km. Mainly CTE. Abt 420-450km without AC to refill light on. Not tried full tank with AC before. Mainly wife drive.
4) my central lock does not seem to include the boot, i.e when i unlock the doors the boot remains locked, need to use key. Is this normal behavior? Try checking related wire connections. Stock usually linked. Multimeter maybe required.

Hi swatdila 1) what is the usual idling rpm? For this car, the rpm is almost near to 1 not sure if its normal or high Answer: Engine RPM and idling speed is around 750 to 850 rpm with and without air-condition switch on. 2) i saw in the engine bay there is this Ultimate sparks thingy. Anyone can tell me what is this n whats the purpose? Answer: This Ultimate sparks thingy and an extra add aftermarket product, originally stock car does not come with it. You can google this product to find answer on how it works. 3) my fc so far not so gd. My wife only drives abt 15km a day in start-stop traffic so full tank at most can reach 300km. Monitor further see if any improvement Question: what was to usual speed your wife drive everyday, road condition, is she supper light footed or heavy footed, did you check your tires pressure are they at the correct level or below ? For city driving stock pica should be able to get 320 to 350km/l depend on traffic conditions. 4) my central lock does not seem to include the boot, i.e when i unlock the doors the boot remains locked, need to use key. Is this normal behavior? Answer: Its not normal, go get it check did the central lock at rear boot spoil or connection issue. Lastly you said your engine vibrate badly when gear is engage it best to go back to workshop to check out don't let it get worse.

Hi all
Thanx for the responses. The vibrating engine was due to a dead plug. One of the plugs had the gap bridged by carbon deposits. Did a further ccheck and was adviced a top overhaul is neccessary as the top end very dirty with carbon. Am waiting for a quote for this job. Anyone ever done a top overhaul b4? The engone now do feel a bit sluggish not sure if its related.

Is there a need to do top overhaul for a certain mileage? Eg 120K? when is it required to do so?

Overhaul doesnt depends on mileage/age. Some do once every 2-3 years, some doesnt do at all.

By the way, I heard that decarbon is good for higher mileage cars because of carbon build up. How to decarbon? Just drive aggressive for a period of time?

For my case, there a a lot of carbon build up in the engine and maybe it caused the car to be sluggish. But more importantly, when the engine runs, the carbon breaks up and fouls the sparks plugs causing it to be shorted and stops working. Then the engine will start to vibrate quite badly as one of the pistons are not working.
So i guess no choice i got to do this top overhaul for now. Luckily its only the top overhaul and not the entire engine overhaul..

Brakes: SSBH, better pads suffice.

Yea picanto brakes not very powerful. Cause too small already no matter what you do short of changing to a bigger set of brakes. Just be careful and anticipate.
