Have any of you folks encounter the a/m before? My car is coming to 6-year old and the Remote is 'Wheels' brand provided by C&C. This has happened to me twice in a month. First time I left my car with the engine running, closed the car door and its lock is automatically activated. I have to rush back home to get my spare key and that took me over an hour. Happened to me again today when I visit a customer. I closed the door with the engine running as I go to the guard room to exchange passes. The doors lock automatically. This time I did bring a spare remote in my pocket but, apparently, when the engine is running, the remote button for opening doors will not work. Eventually, I manage to deactivate the remote after struggling with the buttons for over 5 minutes. You can disable the remote by pressing the 2 buttons concurrently for a couple of seconds and the car alarm system will be de-activated with the doors automatically unlock.

i had the same unfortunate experience twice also using the stock remote from C&C. havent figured out whats causing the problem but now i never close the door with engine running unless i have a passenger inside. i suspect the door sensor on the driver side is faulty

I had this problem on my Spectra and I had to break the window glass as the car was at a critical location.
I believe the locking happens to protect the car from being driven away by thieves. Now I have a spare key in my wallet and never have to worry.

Just a thought, maybe the brake activated sensor malfunctions or something? Never happened to me before, though.

Somewhere is leaking voltage causing the sensor to malfunction probably. Instead of using a spare remote, I've already made a spare key that can fit nicely in my key pouch for emergency use.

if its not by design, then there are 2 reasons it does that. One is the wiring in the system is starting to corrode. mechanics usually twist copper wire together instead of soldering it. As the wire corrodes, it causes contact problem, fooling the autolock into locking. Another reason is a defective locking gun. It intermittently locks or unlocks when shaken during lock operation or when closing the door.
btw. for such situations , just make a spare key at any locksmith. They charge $5-$10. Choose the the flat type so you can keep it in the wallet. Saves space.
cheers

My car will get it's door locked when my car started moving off for about 10m after I stepped on my footbrake. Didn't have that auto-lock before.

Guess your car must be a male one. Some chemical reaction going on in the car when see Chiou Bu. Lesson: Do not wash your car beside Chiou Bu.
