Been driving my cerato for 3.5 years now with regular service. However recently after driving around for a while and then park upon returning bout an hour time, it wont start... batts lights fuses all in order... sent to workshop twice no prob...
Twice it wont start at night and morning when towing came it starts!!! further happen 2 more times and what i did was to let it just be there and try again an hour later and it starts...
pls advise.... could it be FIP? even tried "airing" out the air filter and step accelerator 5min...

Exactly the same thing happened to my Carens. C&C diagnose for 6 mths and cannot find the fault. One day the CEL just like up P0011. All modern engine only need to crank once and it should start. But when this happened Crank and Crank it would not start but if you wait for 2mins it starts!!! If your car have CVVT then it should be a faulty OCV (Oil Control Valve). It could be the OCV is faulty or the valve have caught some dirt jamming it. Hope this is useful. Been driving my cerato for 3.5 years now with regular service. Could it be a weakening battery?

Sound and batts all normal... no abnormal sound.... i have a feeling the fuel is not going in to fire up the engine that why when crank all ok but not firing up... cud it be fuel pump filter dirty?

Possible...what's ur mileage? I changed mine @ 40k as I frequent JB for petrol...but service manual recommends 60k I think. I got my filter from MinGhee for $48 with GST. Went to Harmony to install for $60. I think can get better price elsewhere.

mine V1, me frequent JB for petrol also.. encounter a few times recently car can't start once after putting petrol to the brim.. start and die off immediately a few time.. must press on throttle then can start, once release throttle, car die off again.. then must start with throttle on again and drive off ... after moving off for a very very short distance..about 20 to 30meter.. the car is normal again.. won't die off and even if stop engine and start again, it's ok... i been JB for petrol for a long time, but only recently then hv this problem.. been to workshop and diagnose, O2 sensor is faulty.. but me haven't change yet... could it be the cause???

Finally found the source.......!!!!!!!!!!
Sent my V2 to C&C and manage to detect that the cam shaft sensor is spoilt... that was what causing the engine not starting up at times...(became frequent).
Damage : $175
Considered ok for the peace of mind compared to when i was worried to switch off engine not knowing if it will start up again....

Does C&C say anything if you have not been going there to service, then send back to rectify a fault??

*FUrther UPdates*
After changing the camshaft sensor for about 180...i went to collect my car at C&C.... whole cabin smelt of petrol.. kept driving whole day and still same...felt giddy too... went to pump full tank and still no change... then next day noticed fuel gauge drop faster then usual... open bonnet check discover fuel leaking!
Immediate went C&C again to check...it seemed the O-ring went faulty and they change for me FOC...tat was so dangerous....luckynever catch fire...
Then after weekend again Mon cant start after i drove from Jurong to Town...sianz...tow again to C&C and they finally found out FUEL PUMP faulty...got it changed - total damage $650.....
Finally car running as normal.....

sorry to hear that ...i think C&C diagnosis is rubbish ..a gd mechanic would make a thorough check and not based their conclucion on one fault. AFAIK, a dead cam shaft sensor will not disable an engine, it is not suppose to do that, it is a fail-safe design, meaning engine runs even when failed. Plus that petrol in cabin ...that is so substandard ..the fuel pump ..wow overcharging I think. I once paid only $40 for a Daihatsu fuel pump for a motorbike project and definitely did not pay what u paid when I changed my fuel pump last year. Hoping all gd for you now
