A month ago my SPECTRA broke down on the highway, and I had to have it wrecked home. Since then, I've bought and replaced the IAC VALVE, CRANK SENSOR, & CAM SENSOR (just changed the cam sensor minutes ago). I also checked all the fuses, had the injectors and injector rail cleaned, and checked the fuel lines in the engine bay to see if fuel is reaching the injectors. Much to my frustration, after all of the time and $$$$$ spent, the car still won't start. I'm honestly at my whits end at this point and I don't know what again to do or look for! :-( I'm desperately hoping that someone reads this post and would be able to shed some light on this costly month long dilemma. Worst case scenario, I think I might seriously consider just selling the car and moving on.

That's just the thing. I live in Trinidad, but I imported my car from Singapore 3 yrs ago.
So as far as a warranty goes, I don't have any. All of the parts that I've changed so far was done via advice from fellow KIA owners.
The fatal error I made on the day the car broke down was erasing the trouble code that came up on my code scanner and not writing it down.

The only solution is bring back to your local Kia authorized dealer workshop. All help we render are just suggestions and opinions since we cannot see the problem physically and the very detail of what going on.
We may not know the history of the car and what other factors caused it just by penning down online. We just speculate only, sad to say.

i would be looking at the ECU. but all these are costs. its still better to get it to the KIA authorised dealer or workshop.

Wow, you live on the opposite side of the planet.
Have to agree with dllatimer, we are just a bunch of car owner. We are not mechanic, surely, there are many car workshop in Trinidad who can repair a KIA.
Strongly suggest you seek immediate help from pro as engine idle for 1 month is long enough.
My last try, did you ODB code start with P03XX ?
This is a misfired code, did you check the spark plug ?
Good luck !!!

Ok, I'm in the middle of doing the needed tests, and here's what I've found so far.
1: Fuel is reaching as far as the injectors. I disconnected the fuel line that goes to the injector rail and cranked the engine. Fuel began shooting right up from the line.
Then I loosed the two bolts that holds the fuel rail to the engine block and tilted the entire rail upwards. When I cranked the engine again, fuel squirted from the injectors, but I'll admit, the injector closest to the right hand side of the engine seemed to squirt the least. Which brings me to this question: How powerful does the injectors squirt?
2:I have spark
I did the spark plug test and I got a spark on all 4 wires.I did find that the spark was a bit weak though.
Finally, I bought a can of start fluid and when I sprayed it into the throttle, the car would hesitate a bit, but still, it would start and idle for 5-10 seconds and go dead again.
I'm no expert but judging by how the engine responded to the starting fluid, I'm almost now convinced that the issue is a fuel issue.
In such a scenario, is it possible that fuel car reach as far as the fuel injectors and still he car won't start? If so, then what factors can affect this?

u want to.check rail.pressure?
dono abt car ecu but supposedly.able.to.record online real time values when starting the engine. pressures temperatures logics etc.

**UPDATE**
I installed a brand new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator this afternoon but unfortunately, still no success!
When I disconnect the fuel line under the seat, the pressure is way better than it was before but on the other hand, the pressure in the engine compartment is still very low.
What in the world can be causing this to happen? Do these cars carry an external fuel filter? If so, where is it located?

fuel filter is underneath the rear seats. direct inside the fuel tank.

yes the filter attached to the fuel pump. its not that big right? size of 2 palms. there is a tubing from the outlet into a cylindrical can and then out. if in higher than out, quite possible filter or piping choked

ok, so I just found a couple diagrams of the fuel tank and components.I highlighted the fuel pump housings in the pics. So this is what mine looks like: and this is what the other one looks like: So based on this, I'm now lead 2 wonder where could my filter possibly be. Because I already dismantled the pump housing and there was no filter.

Can anyone help me locate a new one? Having a bit of trouble finding it.

hey thanks a million buddy. will i be able to order the part right off the website? I doubt they will send it overseas for single order. But there's always an alternative. As bro aaur4man is going to get some parts from the stockist, u may wish to wait and compare the price between www.globalkiaparts.com and the costs for getting it at SG and then mail it to you!

Hi Bro I take it the car cranks but refuses to start ? Or does it cough a little before dying? Checked the battery already? It may be near its service life and unable to provide enough current to crank the engine.
I used to drive a Spectra and had this car stoppage problem for almost a year. The car would suddenly stop and would sputter and die down. The agent changed alot of parts including the spark plugs, the fuel pump, etc but nothing seemed to work. In the end, it was traced to the O2 sensor. That's the device connected to the exhaust pipe under the boot used to sense the exhaust gas. Hope you find the problem soon. Good luck!
ps btw, is yours an auto car? You may already know this and it may sound silly but the car won't start if the gear is not in "P" mode. Its a safety feature.
