I will tell you about downsizing from 16" to 15" feeling ~~~
Was: Kyowa RG2 replica with Nexen N7000 205/50 R16
Now: SSR Replica (quite rare 4 x 114.3) with Nexen N5000 195/60 R15
I will keep it short, the differences:
1) Acceleration(!!!) - the replica SSR is lighter than other normal cheap 15"s. I can immediately feel the torque free up, no more dead spot in the rpm. if i really dare to slam on the pedal, i think the car can fly...i think only lol.
2) Steering response - 15" with slimmer tires are more nimble in steering. So much that i tend to oversteer because i remember the angle i used to steer. It is also comparatively lighter and less taxing on the arms. Gives me more pleasure to do one hand steering in tight corners. Look more pro sial.....keke
3) Stopping distance aka grip -
Dry: If you drive leisurely it is about the same really. Not much diff. However if you like hard braking 15s will take a few points off comfort braking zone. Again it is the reason y sports cars go on 18s. I feel it is a reasonable trade-off and not infringing on my safety awareness.
Wet: Havent been in heavy rain, but drizzles and slight wet conditions are fine. Grip is also tire dependent, and I have tried both N7000 and N5000 before to know it works fine in this aspect.
4) Cornering: About the same, so it means I dont really whack corners...but due to the more nimble steering i feel i can maneuver better through the corners when required. But i do notice that turning out of a slip road gives me more response to straighten and kick straight.
5) Rolling resistance - awesome, simply great. due to light rims and slim tires, I feel less need to step hard when i want to accelerate after slowing down. But it may be due to the old rims not so good thats y....but i do feel it.
6) Cruising - this u cant compare with large and wider profile. 16" definitely feels better HOWEVER it is heavy. I dislike heavy feel thus 15" cruising is acceptable to me. Do go for high speed balancing and wheel alignment for better stablility on e-way.
7) Road noise - due to slimmer profile tires, there is less contact on the road with rubber. Noticeably less road noise while cruising on rougher roads. Also different tire sizes/makes/models have different characteristics. just nice N5000 thread is finer , compound not as hard, therefore gives a pleasant highway run without the need to blast music.
The rest will update when i feel it is appropriate
