I had two problems just couple of weeks back with the picanto bonnet unable to open and once open, unable to properly lock in place when closed. First issue was the bonnet release cable had slipped off the mechanism, second was the bonnet catch which holds the bonnet close wasn't working properly as it was supposed to. I had my issues solved at Tampines Auto Services (Blk 9002 Tampines Street 93 #01-36 Industrial Park A. Tel:67862884). Cost me $20 or $25.
Just a note i'm not affiliated to them or anything. Just that when i had this issue, went to Harmony Motors and they inspected the problem and told me need to cut a small hole at the front grill area giving me a big shock. In the end i managed to find the workshop above that can do it without any cutting or drilling. Just FYI to all who faces similar issues.

At Tampines Auto, all he did was jack up the car and reach his hand in from underneath to manually release the bonnet catch. No hole cutting needed. Anyway at Harmony I didn't even ask the cost of labour, he said needed to cut I just said no thanks and left.

The spring mechanism (2 black knobs on ea side) may have been adjusted. It can be twisted to adjust the height of spring, try lowering them. Hope it helps, as I've encountered same prob.

I fixed a picanto bonnet once. It could not be closed. At first, I thought it was due to the battery height. But it turns out to be the spring catch. You need to adjust it somehow and it should catch again.

try to hold the extreme end of the tip of the bonnet. then hold your 2 palms together like you are going to give someone CPR, and give a tight push. It should work. The reason is that the end is the strongest area on the bonnet, and it will be able to push it down to close.
