Hi guys, really need some advice here. My car gets jerky at low speed and when at about 90km/h, can hear a high revving sound. Previously there was no such problem but it only surfaced last month. Anyone with any advice what's wrong? Please please help!!

Hi, I've exp de same thing. Some days my car is just a bit sluggish & some days it drives like a Lexus... Ha ha. Do u let ur engine to warm up b4 driving of? If not, u should consider. I come from a technical background (not cars but big, small, high speed, cold,hot kinda equipment) n all this stuff need to be warmed up b4 running for operation. So wat diff does a car engine make with other machinery. Try it out... This may not be the right answer but just one item to strike out in ur quest to find de problem with ur ride....

Hi ejhan, you are right in saying that this problem only occurs only at certain times. I usually let my car warm up before I leave but sometimes when i'm late bo pian have to just shoot off. Well I'll try to warm up more frequently from now on... Thanks again bros!! Appreciate the help

What does your tacho shows when that happens? HIgh revs and constant or reduced speed may be a clutch slipping problem...

The high revving sound usually happens at 90km/h and at 2,600rpm. A bit weird that I can only hear it at these conditions only... The jerky problems happens at lower gears though... Any ideas?

if u are on manual, then it is reasonable.
me also manual (YEAH!) too, and being jerky on Gear 1 or 2 on cold operation is due to clutch clearance. when u just head out of the carpark u have to let it run in slowly before you chiong on the road. the driver control is especially important during the start if u do not want any of the jerks. that being said, i also have jerks sometimes when i am impatient or some stupid car is too slow exiting the carpark and i wanna overtake via a 2ndary exit.
release ur clutch pedal slower, so ur clutch will engage the gears slower = less jerk. the other way is step ur accelerator slower. i do both = control lor.
our engine will have high revvving sound above 2.5krpm, but im not sure whether it is what u hear. if u hear the same sound @ gear 2 going above 2.5krpm, then im pretty much sure that is normal.
if u experience loss of acceleration @ this rpm, could be clutch slippage. i doubt so though, forte is still so new.
do note that when new, your mechanical parts are still running in and will have to go through a certain phase of wear before it beds in. there will be some differences in engine note and overall operation from brand new to a well run-in car.
if still uncomfortable, why not go back to agent? they will at least be able to diagnose the 'jerky' part.

one more thing to note: if you are cold start in the morning, the air-intake is cold. there may be a few reasons:
- cold air in = more power = better combustion
- cold start = cold combustion = non optimal temperature = ...?? detonation maybe?? some relation to the cold rating of your sparkies. there is a range of temp which is optimal for firing .... about 600 deg c? cant remember. cannot be too cold, cannot be too hot.
- engine rpm is higher for the first 1min or so after cold start. there is a different injection curve and idling rpm. this makes most sense to me imo.

Terms and descriptions varies widely among individuals; i.e our understanding of "jerkiness" will not be the same nor is the expectation of what can be attributed as being "normal" in relation to a cold engine in a closed-circuit injection mode, cold clutch etc. I had a old Sunny, whose replacement clutch take-off is just ridiculously abrupt, regardless cold or hot, it taught me clutch control when moving off the car when cold, I mayhave developed he-man ankles dealing with traffic jam LOL It may all be "normal" but please have it check with your mech or the agent workshop, they should identify it and ease your mind.

that one is clutch plate ...... i think if u sports clutch even worse.....

yep, it was a clutch plate issue, it got better with more kms on it but never really go away ..until I moved on from the Sunny .. my mech felt bad and embarassed about the clutch, it was a brand new set, tried as he might, dismantling it out twice but just couldn't find out anything abnormal with it. It wasn't a big deal for me then, so I did not pursue it further. Besides, he has always been great to me and my cars, my bikes and my dad's car and his bikes ...long time relationship lah .. Its great to have one mech/workshop and stay with them ...it builds trust and friendship!
