After reading all the posts, u shld hv a very good idea of rio. My experience for first 4 yrs driving rio 1.5 HB no major problems, 5th yr on-wards need to start changing parts due to wear n tear, anything that can spoil will spoil.

generally, kia rides are a decent brand to drive.. just like other car makes.. there is nothing much to take note of coz every single car got its own problems or issues along the way.
if u are getting 2nd hand, make sure u got it check at inspection center to ensure its condition. If the dealer shop suggest doing it at vicom, then u insist to do it at other inspection center & u must be present during the inspection.
if its 1st hand, then its almost no chance to watch out for anything coz its NEW. but if u wan, get an experience fren or relative to go w u..let them drive n feel it (esp collection day!!)
most impt, korean car need more effort to take care, esp after 3yrs n above.. change when its needed.. u save now, u spend more in future.

well, my current ride is a '92 civic hatchback. guess u guys shld roughly know which model is it. a car which ppl thinks its problematic. anyway, wad do i meant by problems are like which parts are probably pron to wear and tear. timing and water belt i know is a must to change. how about aircon compressor? geearbox? i don hav any friends dat had a korean car before, neither do my family. so knowing more abt korean cars wld be a gd way to start off. i know some cars hav problems lah car start to produce sounds due to hinge or lock being lose. some windows control gt problem so on and so fore.

honestly, each of our kia rio got its own problem. because the main reason is each individual drive differently n take care differently.
eg. bro evererin always have door lock problem after 3 yrs but i dun have it. i have steering wheel sound but rest dun have. Bro throttle think have sensor problem but rest dun have. some bro have absorber prob but rest dun have. some even have power window problem byt rest dun have.
wat i tryin to say is rio do nt have an usual problem to take note, same as other car models. if u really wan me to narrow down, that is take good care of the parts once it show signs of breaking down (after 3 yrs). i guess tis is also applicable to other cars too.
we have our own problems to the car we own.. does not mean wat i have is wat others have. hope this helps.

i always tell myself.. buying car to use is to BUY within ur financial limits.. not because of the brand, fc or popularity.
because of fc, u buy a exp car but tell ownself that it will help u save $ by good fc..
honestly, how many ppl can say fc save VS the $ to buy the car is really really justified.. u haven break even the car loan, u might even sold ur car already.. how to talk abt break even for the $ spend to buy tis car VS ur petrol saved...
buy within ur own limits

I just got myself a 2nd hand 1.5 HB few weeks back. It's really a personal expectation about how you feel about it...so far so good, the car do not have much issue other than usual sound ad the plastics isn't the best. Air con was much more powerful than my the other car.
Did a very complete check and servicing 1 week after I collected the car. Usual engine servicing, change transmission fluid, flush brake and power steering system, flush radiator coolant, change a new battery, change all possible filters including air con filter and new sets of 15" rims and decent tires including wheel alignment...just for peace of mind!

92 ESIs rocks after clearing all those wear and tears!!! Rio is a 'guai guai' car... Will not be fair to compare with ESIs or even Hondas.... Totally different concepts... Buy car = prepare to pay... Wear and tear VS Modifications.. Need and Want... Rio - Simple, reasonable ride for comfort and handling.

Lol... Some believe accessories won't make your car go faster, some believe in certain modifications to make your car perform 'better'... Accessories shops like Vim Auto are suitable for Rio, cos' the boss knows a lot about Korean cars like Rio... but got to be very firm in what you want, cos' he will hard sell a lot of stuffs to you.. Good, but bad for pocket if you do one shot all the things he recommend... I did grounding, VS HID, Air intake and stereo installations at Vim auto... workmanship is great, cos' they know where the stuffs are in our rides and they will do a proper job. YES, there's not many shops doing Rios... Fortes, yes.. more varieties and choices, but Rio is pretty much limited in terms of exterior and interior modifications. Can try Getz and Verna as they share some similar parts with Rios... Getz, Verna 1.4L engines are the same as Rios for example... I started a topic on the FC of the Rio before... Mine is about 13.5km/l, Manual HB with usually no air-con switched on, no spare tyre and on stock rims, Open pod. sgkiaclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=picantogeneral&action=display&thread=15522sgkiaclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=picantogeneral&action=display&thread=17263Open pod or Drop in sgkiaclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=picantogeneral&action=display&thread=16006I have started quite a number of topics in the past when I got this car before... Korean cars and Japanese cars have quite different concepts initially. Rio is more subtle, simple family car concept. Its stable at 90-100km/h but FC may suffer relatively due to its weight... Get a mechanic friend to go with you if you are testing our 2nd hand cars... Easier than getting brain-washed by those salesman...

Actually...it would be an interest to embark into projects on a used car...restoring it to almost new conditions...it could well be a joy!
