Hi all,
Wish to seek some advice here. Recently went for a change in tyres and wheel alighment. discover that drive imrove slightly but not smooth as absorbers had worn out. using rear stiffners now to reduce the effect if pass thru roadhump.
was recommended Ming ghee for replacement of shock absorbers. anyone can share the costs involved? any particular brands to recommend or should just stick to OEM ones?
btw, my ride is Kia RIo 1.4 HB. - 05' spec. Thanks..

Your RIo still have another 5 years to go. No comment of any brand but dun get stock - oil absorber, try gas filled absorber which can last longer. Price different abt $20 - $30 per piece. LMF just replace recently

KYB have only rear absorber but not front. Original rear cost $80 per pc and front cost $65 per pc. But most of after market required some mod so i advised better not coz might affect in long run.

I went to Yuen Chong to get KYB shocks. Front and rear complete set. However, while at my mech shop, found that shocks are for diff model for KIA Rio. Going down monday to exchange to correct model.
Just a question, can the old springs be used back together with KYB shocks? or diff kind of springs needed.. pls advise..

As I post recently they only have the rear not the front. Either they heard wrongly or you give them wrong info. I've check with both Yuen Cong and Chin Hon Motor both of them told me they same thing.

i remember that they say it was the front absorber that was not available. u might wanna check with them to confirm.unless they had recently have the stock. check with them in september no stock, again in early october also same answer,so i decide on original parts coz i need to replace is as driving is no longer a comfort and also afraid after market might need some modification and might cause problem in handling after much consideration.

For rio 05 - 09, there are only rear for KYB, I am on them, no need mod, bolt on.. As for fronts, you have to wait for Monroe to release for Asia market as right now they have it only for the USA.

Bro, so u bought for the rear only? u mind reveal the damages for the suspension u bought? it's the whole coilover set for the rear rite.. (sori if i'm askin stupid qns to u.. ) Was wondering if the rear we put KYB and front put original, wil the driving be weird? esp on cornering.. I not sure my suspension izit havin problem anot.. sometimes on uneven road, i can hear 'kok' 'kok' sound from my front-right side which i tin is from my suspension. den back can hear 'quek' sound.. So can i say my suspension oso die liao? me driving 07 Kia rio HB..

Yup. bought the rear only. Each piece cost about $70.. so times 2 for rear shocks.
if you wondering if your shocks are in bad condition, here some q's to ponder? 1) when you try to speed up while playing a corner, ie: KJE exit off BKE, does your steering wheel vibrate so much you need extra force to control.. esp if feels draggy at the back-end.. 2) when you hit a roadbump, does your car rebound up&down heavy despite less load, ie: no passengers or more load; full capacity?
if any of it is yes, chances are the shocks nid replacement. i've been using rear stiffners for some time now.. works well for the second q's but for first one, quite bad cuz can feel the 'extra vibrations' cmg frm rear end..
of course, it would be nice to have a full seet, front and rear.. but for now, i am contented to replace my rear first since its worn out.. Front still manageable.. if time comes, mayb can switch to a good aftermarket type..

Thxs bro.. for the 2 qns that u posted, i dn hav either problem.. when KJE exit off BKE, i can complete the corner quite smoothly.. den when pass hump, i feel the suspension is quite hard. (Izit korea made car all suspension is harder compare to jap car?) I can hear the 'kok' sound comin from the front.. duno watsound is that.. That means u bought the KYB suspension for rear is 140, (with e spring/whole suspension set?) installation hw much u paid? (Paiseh ar bro, cs some ppl say shock absorber is jus the absorber, den the spring is use back original, so i abit confuse )

only bought the shocks. using original springs.. labour cost about $50.
solved a lot of driving discomforts. worth the time and effort to do it esp if ur shocks in poor condition. Mileage oso seem to be better..
