if up to the owner, 1. Open pod is good for high speed( high end), for low end is not so good.
2. Stock filter is good in low end but looes out on high end.
you can't get both in one world.

Correct spelling is STOCK. not STALK
Anyway, Stock got the air-filter box which helps to store ready air to be used, thus provide sufficient air supply during initial pickup and low end.... when going high end or higher speed, the supply becomes not readily available as the air supply needed during those speed or rev is high, this is where Open Pod comes in strong, as the air available after the filter is plenty and not as restricted as the Stock Air-Filter.
But Open Pod dont have storage after the filter, which is the reason for minor lag.
Open Pod is useful on track< high rev and dont need initial pickup...
As for daily driving, open pod is likely to increase Fuel consumption and depends on your driving style.

To add on to Glenn's comments Some setup compensate the lag using things like short ram pipes or fat dummy pipes. These r quite popular with old honda performance setup I saw some aftermarket garages r offering the same setup for cars of other makes. Basically for short ram pipes it's a shorter length of piping setup with minimum twist to reduce resistance. Fat dummies are pipes which are balloon up in size in e middle to store air for the initial burst at low end.
Personally I feel that the increase in air without ECU tuning for added fuel injection will not let u have the full benefit of the open pod. Unless yr car runs on rich A/F ratio at stock setting. Most Hondas run a little more rich so changing to aftermarket filters will have an effect on acceleration.

Stock may not be better. Have to try open pod on the Koup.

so u mean if change open pod have to do tuning will be better? if no tuning remain stock is better? wahlao..haha don't get u man... hahaha

so u mean if change open pod have to do tuning will be better? if no tuning remain stock is better? wahlao..haha don't get u man... hahaha U need to know how the engine management works. Each ECU is program with a A/F (Air / Fuel) matrix or mapping. Most articles will tell u the optimum A/F is 1:14.2 ratio. Therefore if u increase the airflow, it will adjust the A/F band. It may make it more lean, too much is no good..lost of power. Too rich no good...increase fuel consumption and lose of power. Do it depends on stock A/F ratio? To answer to your question...Don't know.. need to try or measure the A/F matrix to fully understand the Koup ECU setup.

U can try to play a balance..example open-pod n straight-through exhaust for high end n crank-pulley for low-end.. My 2 cents worth

Balance is important but need to balance is expensive.. cos mod one = mod another & another & Another & another... another... another... until balance or back to stock... lol

the larger surface area of the open pod will improve air intake at top end. having said tht, there's also a limit for NA cars. Unless yours is TC then go ahead & buy the biggest baddest open pod.
as with most things in life, it always takes 2 hands to clap. pump in more air and fuel gets you more power but ecu tuning (ignition timing & air/fuel ratio) maximizes combustion with the optimum mix.
in summary: you get the greatest ejaculation with just enuf fantasy........so tht u can keep going & going & going & going ;D

I going to slap myself...anyway a long time friend suggest I do open pod for track day...so this is it. My 1.6L DIY. items required. - Spare Simota Open Pod from my Civic aeroform setup, found during CNY spring cleaning - 38deg offset bended aluminium pipe. 1-end widen to 3in for Open Pod & similar to honda "fat-boy" setup. With the help of my friend's pipe bender - Spare silicon coupler + hose clips...lucky I always keep my old stuffs from my previous rides - Remove stock scope and pipings. - I left the stock filter box closed and filter removed. - the pod position is tilted upwards as close to bonnet opening to get CAI effect, similar to stock air scoope - bonnet stopper lifted 3 screw threads for better CAI effect. I perfer to have it in this position then to bring it close to the road floor. Remember hot air rises from the floor... I haven't tried to do a dyno comparison with my IP4 Dynolicious app. Need to find time to do run, but this is the setup going up to Sepang
