Just changed my timing belt set and water pump on Sat 16 Oct 10 @ Harmony. (Jurong side). Total costs incl GST 417. Job done was considered fast less than 4hrs. Service OK and friendly. Mileage was just before 70K. Actually I just wanted to change the belt only but was convinced by the workshop manager to replace the water pump to be safe, so I did. Inspected my old timing belt, my evaluation, it can actually go for another 10K easily, the structure was solid with no sign hardening of the material, however, minute crack using a 10x magnify was spotted . this occur on the low side of the serrated only. The raised side was perfect. For those who want to play it safe, 70K is a good guide to change. As for the water pump, no abnormality was found. The impeller is still good and bearing can't tell maybe not as smooth as new. My view

You can try Chan Auto at Taman Molek Jalan Molek 2/3
N1 31 44.5 E103 47 34.5
I change timing belt for my Getz, which I think has the same engine as Picanto.
If you bring your parts, the labour is about rm100.

wannn check can normal water can used for topping up water coolant? Better not. When is the last time you replace the coolant? Every 20k km or 2 years should replace, this is to protect your cooling system from getting rust and leak. Should be abt $40 can get it done.

Some pre mix coolant is not advisable to mix with distilled water. Will not be so effective.

ok, i see ... so, if use pre-mixed coolant, got left-over after that, keep and use to top up when low level

Timing belt change will take 3 to 4 hrs. The last time I went to Chan Auto around 9am. You can stay there and watch them work. They are quite experienced with Hyundai and Kia cars. When I finished my lunch at the nearby coffeeshop, the car is ready for collection.

Hi... Where is min ghee located? Is it much cheaper to get the parts ourselves? My picanto's mileage is abt 85k.. And the workshop I go to told me to change some stuff soon... He quoted ne 500 to 600 for timing belt, filter, servicing... Can anyone pls tell me what else I need to change? It's a 05 picanto n I got it abt 2months ago Is it safe to drive in to Malaysia? Will they overcharge cus I definitely look like newbie
