Dear Members, My MT 6 year old Cerato's gear shifter seems to have too much freeplay in any gear. Actually, slightly more an inch to be exact. My ride shifts into the gears crisply but because it wobbles, on two occasions my car had to be restarted because I thought I had put in NEUTRAL when actually it was in gear. Does anyone have any advice and any recommendation of a reliable and reasonable workshop? Has anyone experienced this before? I live in the west ,by the way, but am willing to travel if the workshop is reliable. Thanks in advance, everyone.

Is it due to some kind of bushing? My frend ever changed this bushing after his MT gear stick seems to be loose and rattles at idle..like those on old Crown taxis..after changing, it's OK..but he's driving an Impreza, but shd be same issue..

Yo bro!!! You are absolutely right!!!! Spot on!!! ;D I did some research and found out it's the MT shifter coupler bushings. It usually happens when you shift the gears alot. Just wear and tear. Not a case of abuse. Well, I think I will bring my ride down to Gary's on Wednesday to have him change the bushings. Thanks bro!!!! Really appreciate your feedback!!! Have a great work week ahead!!!!

themostextreme, care to share where u go and damage? i think mine just a wee bit loose, wanna let them have a look to see if its just me or the shifter. i paid $400 for the labour alone. it's a tough job. The cable is abt $80. FYI, need to remove the dash-board and the air-con condenser unit, then u can hv access to the shift cable. Time taken 6 hours lor. U might wan to try the esso lavander and look 4 "kang". I think d damage is abt $300-$350. I believe 4 yr case, it could just be the "bushing" issue.
