sound "deadening" is commonly known as the process where a louder and usually higher pitched tone is suppressed to a softer and lower more tolerable tone. In order to achieve this, you have to stick a heavy material to the car body to dampen the material so when you knock on it, it produces "THUD THUD THUD" instead of "TUNK TUNK TUNK". When you use heat proofing material what you are doing is attenuating the sound from transmitting from point A (source) to point B(cabin) You might get a reduction in noise volume if you use sufficient and correct materials but the frequency of the sound does not change. So instead of a loud "TUNK TUNK TUNK" you might get a softer "tunk tunk tunk". Another concern with heat insulating materials are usually foamy/sponge like.. when you stick it into the door area it becomes a great place for humidity/rain water to gather and mould/black spots to grow over the years. Sound proofing material are usually like a sheet of sticky material do not have this problem. But they add a bit of weight to the door making it feel very 'solid'

Even if cotton based also wun grow mouldy cos it will be treated to prevent mould growth. It usually starts like 1-2 years then can see the black spots growing water from the window manages to get onto the insulation for long periods of time. The mould/black spots growing is not a confirm happen thing because it depends on the material and how it's being installed (whether contact with window or rain drip in, etc..)

Can also try to get the heatshield material at 60, Tannery lane as mentioned before by Monsterdog, the place sells insulation sheets from thickness 6mm to 25mm and the materials are from Germany.
