Hi bros, i'm currently on the lookout for a SUV, and Sportage has attracted me with its good looks but from reading these threads, i only read about soft off roading. I'm keen on going off roads sometimes, so wonder about the capabilities of a Sportage? From kia's website, it reads "4WD System Kia offers an advanced full time four wheel drive system Upon sensing loss of tire grip, as much as 50 percent of the engine torque is automatically apportioned to the rear axle." A Terios with 4WD is going for a few K cheaper, but Terios is 1.5 and a sportage is 2l Can any bro advise me? thanks!

(The 4WD 2.0 is not available locally from C&C, maybe can check if they will bring in for you in indent basis). The 4WD version is available with the 2.7 V6 configuration with 4AT. In summary, the follow is what's currently available from C&C: 1) 2.0 with FWD 2) 2.7 with e4WD(electronic controlled) - note that there isn't 2H, 4H, 4L for hardcore off road. Current Sportage is more of a soft roader. Bernard

actually what's the difference between soft and hard roaders?
What kind of terrains are not suitable for soft roaders?

hard off roaders are more suitable for more extreme terrains, as the 4 wheel drive would be more suitable to pull the vehicle out of any ditches and slopes that is thrown to it.
im guessing u are still new to this off roading thing. i suggest u go for 2wd first to experience some form of off roading before progressing to 4wd because no point buying a 4wd vehicle and u dont utitllize it

my advise ... get the sportage 2.7 AWD ... hard or soft will entirely depend on how turn on you are ... join me and my suvec kakis ... we started soft and we get harder and harder as the off-road adventure continues ... one thing i learn ... its never about the equipment ... its the man behind the equipment driving that matters ... and all the ladies i been with agrees ... hellalujah ...

I frequent off-roading with EVO, 0780, mysportie and lot more. If u are more on off-roading, Sportage is more on soft-core. If u want a harder, get a Suzuki Grand Vitara 4WD. Mit Pajero another good choice.

Evo, it's a pity you miss the last BBQ trip at Tanah Merah. more than 30 cars went in. It was great fun. Some guys start a mobile disco, and those ladies dance like never before.

Kit, Your sportage is 2.0 or 2.7? 2.0 2WD. And yes.. if no choice, really must get a 2WD, try to get a Front Wheel Drive, instead of a rear wheel drive for off-raoding.

Hi Dowz, I'm arranging a meetup session on 25/5 (Fri) 8:30PM onwards at West Coast Macdonalds. I'm asking a few freinds. Most are off-roaders, soft & hardcore. There might some Terios and Rush owners. Of course Sportage owners. Do join us for some chat.

Had been driving Sportage 2.7 for nearly 2 years. And I'm a frequent extreme off-roader. Frankly, Sportage is just not a good 4WD under these situation. In the end, I only use the Sportage for normal road driving and use any car for off-road. No wonder the price is cheap. These are kind of terrains I usually drive for off-roads: This one above, just damaged my underguard and wiper's water holder. Overall, after driving few 4WDs, I strongly recommend Toyota LandCruiser or Nissan Patrol - both are awesome 4WDs. Though now, I drove my H3 to these terrains.
