Dear Bros and Siss, I'm getting my ride probably next week and I had a few mod that I plan to do for my new ride but need all your advices. Here goes the list: 1. The ride does not come with alarm system, I thinking of getting a good one like crime stopper , 2 ways etc, what do you all recommend? Budget abt <$300. 2. The sound system for the new ride is very bad, any good stuffs to recommend? I was thinking of just changing the oem speakers but do I need to change the amp also to suit the new speakers? My budget abt <$300. 3. I'm thinking about getting the side steps for the new ride? Any shop to recommend and about how much does one set cost? I think this is the list for the time being....Thank you!

Hello there!
I jus gt my ride 2 weeks back.
I agree the sound system nt fantastic. Stil considering whether to spend money on that. Did your SE give you the DVD player one or the one tt has USB port?
Regarding the alarm system, I also thinking but budget very tight.
The side steps you should try asking from your SE.
Enjoy your ride. My plan to change one at a time. Not so heavy on the pockets and can always look forward to something...

U can try Canton front components, but I think they sound better with amps, which you can add later. Rear speakrrs you can change to coaxials at a later time. 3) I dun have side steps and don't intend to install side steps so can't give much inputs. One item which I recommend installing is the strut brace. I would suggest installing it after you run in the car, reason being after run in, you should have a better feel on how the car handles and can feel the difference after installing the strut brace. The price fluctuate depending on time and whom you source it from, I heard of prices between $40 to $100. Depending on the brand/design/material/etc.

1. The ride does not come with alarm system, I thinking of getting a good one like crime stopper , 2 ways etc, what do you all recommend? Budget abt <$300. In S'pore quite safe, so no worries. In M'sia, a good alarm set can't even stop the thief.
2. The sound system for the new ride is very bad, any good stuffs to recommend? I was thinking of just changing the oem speakers but do I need to change the amp also to suit the new speakers? My budget abt <$300. The stock speakers cannot make it. A better speakers can't work well w/o an amp, and amp can't work well w/o a better stereo set. Maybe, you shud stretch yr budget a bit.
3. I'm thinking about getting the side steps for the new ride? Any shop to recommend and about how much does one set cost? I have a set of side steps planning to give away, in exchange of the present "side skirting" on yr ride. But, my side steps crack, if any of u don't mind. Side steps is a "Barrier" for off-roading. I got it at S$700+ 2 yrs back. I forgot the shop name, that boss Nancy, along Alexandria road opp IKEA. Bernard, do u know that shop name??

Bernard, do u know that shop name??1. I saw a alarm system today at $200+, no engine starter la... Still considering. 2. Saw this set of Quartz Audio component speakers comes with tweeter speakers, the lady boss say $300 can do both front and rear speakers, also considering at the moments. 3. Does the new car comes with side skirting? Don't know about it, gonna ask the SE abt it, but if the a pair of side steps is gonna cost so much then mayb think over this first, not very crucial la... 4. Btw, anyone heard about the sub-woofer that is installed underneath the driver seat? The lady say no need to install amp la, just install the woofer can already, don't quite understand. Someone please enlighten me. Thank you! 5. How much does an amp cost? Mayb those entry level with 4 ways?

When install side steps, have to replace with the present "side skirt". Yr front mud guard have to dismantle too. But, I guess it's cheaper now.

There are many brands of active sub woofer that can fit under driver seat. Most if not all that fits under driver seat are 8"(max). The are ok when going with OEM speakers or upgraded speakers w/o amps. I think once U add amps, the active sub might start to sound 'weak'.
Prices of amps vary greatly due to various reasons like rated power(constant - RMS), brand, size, design. Also the cost of installing the amp is another thing U should factor in, things like labour, power cable, inline fuse, speaker cables need to be done when adding an amp.

Hi silverine Gray Spot, The $200+ alarm system is not worth buying. I can get 2 way Alarm system with engine starting at only RM200+. But according to the shop owner, this type of normal alarm do not have anti-hi jack function, so if they rob your key, you can only LL see them drive away your car. 2 types of alarm recommend are Auto Watch and the Alarm system from Hwa Keat. For Auto watch alarm system, when robber rob your key and drive away, after 60 sec if they do not press a secret button inside the car. The alarm will start to activate and cut off the fuel pump. so the robber will not be able to drive anymore. Another good thing about auto watch system is that all the wiring is black in colour. so even the most expert car thieve will need at least 20min to figure out which wire to cut, as wrong wire cut will trigger the immobliser and make the car unable to start. Same goes to Hwa keat system, except that the wiring is coloured. Autowatch system cost about RM1750, Hwa keat system cost about S$580. www.autowatch.co.nz/alarms-446-risg.htmlwww.autokey.sg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=60&Itemid=1

Whao... didn't know that alarm so advance today. I'm so suaku. I didn't find out more bcos I believe nobody would bother to steal a KIA.
But, I recalled an incident sometimes back at A'Farmosa, Malacca. The thief made off with a S'pore Estima under well lit car park, the Estima was installed with high end 4 figures S$ alarm systems.
Maybe he pay high end price but low end systems.

(but still can jump start) 3) Install quick release steering wheel, remove when parked. 4) let me think harder, hahaha For those with anti-hijack feature, it better not shutdown the car too soon(ie 60 seconds). Hijackers might still be very close by when the ignition cuts out and if you are still in sight(view) you better run fast fast. Else you might kena wallop or end up kena kidnap as well. Also skip security system with biometric disarming, a few years back Merc Benz in M'sia had a great security feature for their top of the line S Class, finger print recognition to start car. Someone lost his hand and Merc in M'sia don't come with this feature ANYMORE! Bernard

So don't think I'm putting it on any time soon. I'm trying to enjoy my ride but haven't run-in yet and it's a big change for me from a Vios to drive such a huge monster but the feeling quite shiok lah! My co-pilot told me the exact same words you said. "plan to change one at a time. Not so heavy on the pockets and can always look forward to something..."

I was considering the Hwa Keat system but it stretched too much into my budget so not considering it at the moment.
