Dear Sportagee,
Fristly would like to thank the creator of this forum as we can share and evaluate many knowledge in here.
Sencondly, I would like to find out what would be the best solutions we can find to achieve a better FC in our Sportage ride. So far on a full tank for my Sportage I can achieve about 380 - 400 depending on my ride.
I was reading many stuff on how we can achieve the FC and I am sure there must be a way but need some R&D. I heard about "Mobis Throttle Body" is popular among Korean cars. Is this true ++++ many-many more? Infact there is too many that we really are not sure which would serve the best.
Hope all Sportagee can share on how we can achieve a better FC.
Best Regards, merkhan

Hi Merkhan, Welcome here to the club If you can achieve 380-400KM for full tank. I guess you need not further R&D to get better FC. Or rather getting some gadget to increase those horses on yr ride ie the Open throttle body, but heard the FC will be higher. I drove for 1 year, best 320KM, lousiest 240KM, average & most of the time 280KM. In fact, I'm rather curious how u can achieve this standard. Can you teach me & enlighten me? We're having this meetup on 31/3 Fri at West Coast park. Why dun u come over to share issues abt our rides. Seeya.

Hi Kit, Most of my ride achive at that best rate 380 as for 400 this would be on a full tank plus overlaoding the gas again. Esp when I go JB will fill it up till overload. My ride will be by not pressing the accelrator too much and maintain at an RPM below 3,000. Currently I am using the Silver Caltex 95 to monitor my milage. I will keep you posted on this. My fuel tank is nearly reaching half and my milage is already at 190. I would love to meet you guys too and will let you know on my attandance. Merkhan. Let you know Kit.

Yo Cedric, Yeah, for once., that very tank. I did very careful on my right foot. I travel 80% highway on that tank somemore. That's the best I achieve... 320KM.
But 400KM for a full tank is EXTREMELY good, it's VVTI in a Sportage? Otherwise, Merkhan cud be travelling 50KM/hr all the while.
Hi Merkhan, Yr name sounds familiar to me. Are you e person I met at Bedok Interchange? You're telling me u r driving a silver Sportage.

Hello Brothers,
I just clock 380 km and still got 1/4 tank more to go. I think I'll hit 430 km at full tank.
I have not switch to Synthetic lub yet but my car is install with broquet - which may have help a bit.
So far 60% highway / 40% city ( but try to drive like highway by not stopping at red lights. Not that I rush through, but I try to slow down whenever I see red light, so that I don't need to stop when it turn green). Sebbie

Hello,
We all are good brothers. Dont argue over this small matter. I think from singapore to cherating is less than 600km right? why not pump to the full in singapore and see who has the most petrol when we reach cherating? this way can sure show who have better sportage and leg power.
List your name to joint this competition.

It is bcos of the shape of the fuel tank. the top is bigger than the bottom. Something like the shape below. Paiseh, my drawing abit lousy, hope you get the idea. this is to ensure your fuel supply will not get cut off in the case of your car on a slope and low on fuel. There are many fuel tank design out there. This is the more common design.

Hi Kit71,
Just to update you again now my milage is at 305KM and the meter is just sligthly above the 1/4 mark, I guess I am going to hit about 380KM or 400KM again.
It's sprortage lah bro no VVTI but CVVT loh. I think now you argee with me that I can hit that range as Sebbie can even reach further than mine.
Here is my tips:
1. My ride normally will not drag to much 2. Light on my accelerator not above 3,000rpm mark 3. Tyre pressure normally I pump @ 305psi fornightly 4. My sportage is original have done the 20K servicing no special gadget installed yet. All original state. 5. No loads except for one subwoofer. 6. I ride with at 65% Highway 35% Road 7. Always 2 person (me & wife)
Thats all I got to share.
Sebbie,
Your milage are better than the rest looks broquet really helps. Can share how much you installed and where? I will read more bout them.
Thanks Sportagee Keep on Searching & Sharing.

Hello Brothers,
The low fuel light came up this morning at 411 km. By the time I drive to the petrol station, it was 418 km.
By the way, I like Cedric's picture. It is true that the tank is in that shape?
I realised that whenever I am heading towards the traffic light, I let the ride slide instead of continue accerating.
I also try to wind down the car window and off the aircon during morning and evening. Only turn on when it's too hot, raining or dusty. Heard from one bro during last meetup that aircon is the great killer.
Of course, right leg kungfu also help. Many times, a lot of smaller cars overtake me because I did not push my ride. So, lose face but gain mileage. Seb.

What i have missed out !!!! really alot of FC knowledge in this thread......
Just to clarify that our sportage CVVT = Continous Variable Valve Timing......
not CVT ( Countinous Variable Transmission )
I believe our CVVT technology is base on the earlier version of VVT which is still very much mechnically..... as compare to today VVTi which is control by intelligence of onboard microchips
I drove my sister Vios VVTi which i personally feel the difference is on the smooth and greater power output, probably becos the chasis is light...
as for fuel consumption.....to me be it CVVt or VVTi, our right leg is still the factor

hmmm .... based on my research ... aircon increase your FC ... here is an example ... A/C on all the time ... 5 - 6 km/ltr A/C on & off occasionally ... 7 - 8 km/ltr A/C off all the time ... 8 - 9 km/ltr factor such as speeding, hard accelleration, racing with other sportages not included ...

Wow, Evo's research makes a lot of sense. I usually OFF the aircon & wind down the window in the am & evening. Only ON the aircon when really cannot tahan. But, hope to have a better FC after my next servicing and change to Synthetic oil. Seb

Dear Brothers,
Last night, I pushed my ride a little further to 430 km before refuel. Was worried that it will stop. Anybody managed to refuel beyond 430km?
Refuel 50.17 ltrs ( full tank ). Hence, I should have clocked 8.57 km/ ltr.
Next update after changing to Synthetic oil.
I like to thank all the brothers who had given valuable advice on the RL kungfu, aircon, etc.
B/Rgds, Seb.

Mine has never go beyond 400KM for a very long time already. I have given up all these fuel saving techniques and gadgets. Just drive like normal and give myself less pressure. Normal = anyhow whack ;D
Btw, I have been trying V.Power for a month or so. Recently switched back to 95 and I don't feel any difference in terms of engine smoothness and fuel consumption at all.

Seb Seb, I used to do that too but not now anymore because the interior will get dusty very easily if you open the windows very often. It will also make your hair become messy..

I just drive like normal and give myself less pressure. Just enjoy the Sportage ride.

Thanks Brothers for all the advice.
I don't try to save so much. Only time is in the morning, while warming up my engine and late evening when the air is cool, usually after the finishing with driving range.
Cheers, Sebastian Chee.

My first refuel since I collected my ride last week... I think I did ok... 360.6km at 39.82 litres... works out to roughly 9.05km/ltr... No special driving skill, just drive per normal... of course its a far cry frm the days of the super fuel efficient Jazz.... But I'm happy with the mileage so far... hope it maintains... or gets better...
