Which type of engine oil is most popularly used?
Most workshops carry W40 type of oil. C&C also uses the W40 variey.
Wonder if any Mag bros have tried others such as W30 or W20 since the operation manual suggest such oil will give better economy.
Anyone tried W30 or W20? Which brand?

for w20 and w30 better not play high rev they r good for normal driving with good fuel economy only not enough protection for engine

Sorry ah bros.. Its not w40,w30 etc... no need the 'w'... W means winter and it only applies to the front no. e.g 10w, 20w... The no. in front does not apply to tropical climate... Only places that have seasonal changes..... So its ok to have eg. 0W30 etc...

Maybe it's all a personal judgement call.
Ample tests and users of newer cars (<3 years old) have proven w30 or even w20 is safe throughout the rpm. Seems a recent achievement in lubrication technology than just relying on oil thickness. In fact it can be proven some older designed w50 oil will cause more wear than some newer design w20 oil. Perhaps, a paradigm shift that may takes longer time for some.
Similarly 0w vs 20w is another paradigm. In our climate, do we need any thinner than 10w in a December rainy morning?

Hmm.. Just to get it right, thats all... As long as there is no drastic climate changes..... Its fine to use an oil viscosity less than 10w....

I think Hattee is right. It takes a change in mindset. As most workshops carry the universal one which is 40 (applicable for most cars), they'll normally 'sell' the idea that it is better for the engine. Though Turbo cars, normally use the 50 (heavier), to prevent breakdown. I'm no oil expert but recently did a change to 0W20 Mobil1. Got it from Terence (Mxtrading). The specs is for Nescar Race. So I suppose it's good enough for the Mag. My normal driving speed 80-100km/h, occasionaly hit 120.
To my surprise, the pickup from standstill improved quite a fair bit, more smooth. Don't know if the attributed to the Superione product installed or the thinner oil. FC will have to monitor for 2 tanks. So far, it seems to give about 3% better mileage on a per trip basis.
Anyone tried REDLINE also from Terence? Suppose to be good.

Always use the thinest recommended oil for optimal fuel economy and power. I'm currently on M1 0W20, response is great and engine is smooth. Got the oil from www.mxtradings.com

I'm glad I changed to 20wt as well. As long as its recommended in the owner's manual, go for it. Some mechs in S'pore are die hard 50wt fans, why? Cos' it fleet oil and very very cheap, they belong to the dino era as well ...

I switched from 5w40 to 5w 30 for my 80K service couple of days ago and WOW!!! so smooooth and pick up improved tremendously. Didnt have that draggy feel when revving up from stop. Acceleration feels so much lighter. What a difference! For those thinking of switching, check out your manual first. Hope this helps.

bro, did you use the same brand and class of W30 and W40. W30 is definite safe if engine not worn out. I tried both, can't feel their difference except W30 sometimes gives roughly 0.25km-0.5km more per litre. Oil change internal (OCI) at longer than 6,000km, some oil already deteriorated that's why can feel the improvement after changeout. It may not always because the new oil is better. My advice is bring OCI closer whenever engine becomes better after oil change with same class of oil. Send a 10,000km oil for oil test you will know what I mean. The million miles wear-free on Mobil ! is probably the bigger joke than any snake oils claim. I switched from 5w40 to 5w 30 for my 80K service couple of days ago and WOW!!! so smooooth and pick up improved tremendously. Didnt have that draggy feel when revving up from stop. Either Redline or Amsoil, both good stuff, some even swears by Carlube, but for me a Redline person, might try Amsoil this servicing...
