When I 1st got my Sportage, some friends said the same, they'll never get a Korean car. Well, I would got to agree with them if it's 10 years ago. It's a different KIA today. I have no problem with my Sportage during my entire 3 years & 1 month. No gear problem & etc. Minor wear & tear, of course.
But I'm not done yet ... since you plan to drive for so long. What will happen with a more than 5 year old Sportage is still a "?" Go & search for those past reviews of a 2000 model Sportage and you'll be surprise. ;D
I bought @ $70,500 & I sold @ $40,000 after 3 years & 1 month. I think resale value quite OK.

If it was still good, y u traded urs ? A good question. Seriously, I wouldn't want to if I don't need a 7-seater + 4WD.

Hi butterfly,
Did you watch Korean Hours yesterday? In fact, Korean Cars are hot and in thing in Japan. So don't understand the people here.
During our older generation (my Dad's time), they also made bad comments on Japaness cars compare with american cars. See now, they said Japaness is a better choice. This is absurb.

the koreans have very high regard on the kia sportage ... my korean boss was so jealous that i m driving a sportage that he bought himself a Ssyangyong Stavic although he oredi has a Hyundai Trajet ... ok back to your question ... the expected lifespan depends on God ... maybe today you just drive out from the collection centre and later on while you park it at the open carpark ... an army 5 tonner roll over it ... so the lifespan is 0 day ... however if you service regularly at Cheat and Con ... it shud last 3 years or 100,000kms whichever comes first ... however if you service regulary for the next 10 years ... it will last 10 years ... i too opt for the 10 year loan becos after calculation the difference in monthly interested saved with 7 years loan is not substantial enuff in my opinion ... however this will extend the breakeven point where your resale value matches your outstanding loan ... but what to do ... i m not so loaded as some lucky fella who have "no choice" but to upgrade to another bigger fuel gulping 7+++ seater SUV last check the resale value for an 2005 sporatge is around <SGD40K heart pain lah seeing it ... but frankly speaking the annual depreciation value of a sportage ranges from SGD6500 to SGD8500 if fully utilized for the entire COE period ... depreciation value of 2nd hand sportage ranges from SGD4500 - SGD5500 ... but usually the interest rate of 2nd hand cars is more than brand new cars ... thats not a nice fact ... frankly i was never a fan of korean cars ... i remembered when i was just a secondary school boy with no licence ... i fell in love with the old kia sportage at first sight ... you know the old model of kia sportage looks like small size mitsubishi pajero back then ... look so rugged and tough ... but i heard its freaking unreliable ... so was hyundai ... their elantra or accent model back in the pre-millenium years are so unreliable that you need to add 1 litre of engine oil every week ... but look at hyundai now ... still going strong ... looking at the i30 makes me very tempted to go back to my tiongchiaclub lacing at orchard gudang days ... anyway ... Japanese cars are good ... Japanese branded cars made in Thailand is even better ... but nothing beats a korean car made in korea ... have you heard BMW assembled in Thailand??? ..... wah damn tired of typing to bore you readers of SKC ... to be continued ....

Butterfly Mine is in its 4th year, in terms of reliability I've got no complains in the pass 4 years. In fact, I just got back from a road trip to Phuket yesterday. People are surprised to see singapore registered plate in thailand, furthermore, its a KIA..... Now I'm contemplating driving to Bangkok..... I've got no worries about the reliability of my Sportage. As for resale value, I've not keep in touch with the market but for those who bought during those few years, all will loose more as car prices have came down in the pass 3 years. The price I paid for mine almost can get a brand new Forestor Turbo now. Bernard

Personally it doesn't matter the lifespan of the car rather is the much lifespan with the car is more important.....

Phuket island is connected to the mainland by 2 bridges on the north tip of the island. The drive to phuket was nice, there are places with nice scenary. The major highway in thailand are quite well maintained and there is no toll. Bernard

ok now it's my turn...
I've been driving my sportage for 26 mths & so far I'm happy wth it & honestly for me the only setback is the FC lah....my last 4 cars are all japanese cars & now korean cars I can say they are almost on parr with japanese cars.
Bernard & Kit, this 21st we need to sit down & start planning for the BBK trip, I always want to drive up there...
cheers for now......
