normally just change the top unless you feel any abnormalities with your absorber.

bro, how tedious would it be to change on my own? Do i need to remove the wheel, brake & unbolt the shock just to change the top?

Bro, I think you got it wrong. The top mount rubber plate a pair cost estimate only 80. We do not need to replace the whole absorber assembly.
Labour is 50 to 80 to do change the pair locally.

The suspension consist of the coil(aka spring) and your shock absorber. The coil absorbs the shock while the absorber dampens it (i.e. to prevent it from bouncing). If you car is bouncing on all humps, (or more than 1.5 oscillations when you press down on your boot), then the shock absorber needs to change. Otherwise from your picture, it is the seal cover that is broken. You can get that replaced I think. Shock absorbers typically last about 7-8 years but mine is 8 years and still ok so far, so it varies Some more I always to go over hump without reducing speed too much so the absorbers get punished more.

I have the same problem on my cerato v2 the rubber on top of the strut suspension has cracked. I have changed my front two tyre in Sept 2014. The tyre was used for about 1.5 year or so only, have to change as the tyre was won out on one side. I think it i due to wheel alignment out. I google and found the fault could be the camber out. I went to the shell servicing station and they told me got to change the two front suspension strut or the wheel will continue to worn out even if I align the wheel??? My car is 59000km, would doing wheel alignment without changing the strut or rubber helps ? My new set sets of type are showing signs that it is getting worn out faster on one side, similar to the old tyres. here is a link to the cerato strut gantong or suspension for those interested. kia.epcdata.ru/images/cutups_kia/KEURPTD0/5454611.png
