Am planning to drive to genting highlands with my 5yrs old Cerato. As this is my virgin self drive trip up there ... so i hv some questions here
1) Is there any things with the car that i should lookout for? E.g: overheating? coolant? brake pad overheating? etc etc
2) Is the route to Genting easy to navigate? Just need to follow the signs along the NS highway? Any particular junctions/turns that i need to look out for?
3) Where is the safer place to park my car? How much is the charges? Need to put steerling wheel lock?? hehe..
4) And also roughly how long to drive from woodlands causeway to genting highlands? Assuming that driving within legal limit at ard 100km/h and 2,3 rest stops of abt 15min in between. How much is the toll charges? Is it abt RM$100 for return trip?
5) Where is the usual hotspots for the M'sia Traffic Police to set up their "Starbuck" tentage? Is it still in practice to "treat" them kopi? Market rate is how much now? I read from newspaper..at least 2 sporean was fined RM$10k and jailed 1 day for trying to "treat" them kopi leh...
Bro if your car is 5yrs then probaby u need to take note of your radiator top plastic that will tends to crack. Check the surrounding area for any wet spot for tell tail sign of leaks. As for me, discovered at inital stage hence quickly replaced no issued. Your rear brake pad ususally wears off faster than the front so do a check and replace. Also do check the brake fluid level and top up your coolent level. Route to Genting is quite easy once you hit the NS highway E2. Drive all the way till KL toll then after toll keep left for about 2km and look out for left turn to Cheras towards Kuantan direction and head straight approxi 45mins or so till you see some big big signage for left turn again to Genting then all the way uphill to your destination. Coming back also the same way. I would strongly recommend you to bring a GPS when selfdrive in Msia where sometime you might want to explore KL city or miss a turn then it comes in handly and fun. There are plenty of parking at Genting depending which hotel you stay then proceed to park at the respective multistorey carpark best is to park head in and steerling lock it and clear all the valuable things inside your car where is visible. There are a lots of Sg cars there and shd be safe but still practise basic precaution. Parking is FOC there. The journey from Woodlands to KL shd takes about maybe 4 to 5hrs on average speed of 110km/hr with a couple of short breaks. Then from KL toll to Genting will be another 1.5hr so in all is about 5.5 to 6.5hrs to reach. As for toll charges is about RM$100-$120 for return. For TP they usually setup near to Melaka after Pago R&R sometimes along the way do look out for opposite vehicles flashing of headlights as they do mean to alert of police stop ahead. I think they will hint you if can settle on the spot and RM50 should be enough.
bro sgt1806: thanks for ur valuable technical tips and detail descriptions for the route.
bro saniboy/lmf: Mine is OPC..mileage abt 40k+ oni. Jus recently do servicing and changed tire, brake pads. What is the reason for inflating tire pressure abit higher? Comfort?
IMHO..i think u dont hv to really commit any traffic offence if they seriously want u to buy them coffee loh...anyway even if they said u are speeding at 1xxkm/h..they also dont show u any proof right? If they happen to "like" ur ride and pick on u...then suay loh...
jus remember not to put too much C$$H inside ur wallet..
