The manual recommends either RON 92 or 95 for more power. However I understand that different brands of petrol does uses different chemicals therefore the actual mileage/distance clock may differ under the same driving condition.
Recently I tested on Caltex RON 95 it seems to last longer when I monitor the Distance left to travel. However when I filled up my tank with SPC RON 95 on my current tank the consumption seems to be much higher. For example my half tank when using Caltex I clocked about 225km but now my half tank using SPC clocked only 150km. An amazing and very significant difference. That's why I'm puzzled and very keen to know which petrol brand gives the BEST mileage for Magentis Owners.

when you said spc gave you 150km while caltex 225 km that is to say caltex gave you 50% more mileage than spc!..that is almost impossible, it sounds as if you were driving two different cars with different engine capacities altogether. How many times did you get this type of result? What were the driving conditions?
Half tank Magentis is 30L. If SPC gave you only 150km, that means your FC was 5km/L !! This figure is mind-boggling and seems unbelievable!!
Caltex gave you 225km, that means your FC was 7.5km/L. I could believe this type of number on a Magentis which is a heavy car designed for stable cruising. But 5km/L??? Even the gargantuan 3.5L Sorento can give you more than that. Magentis is only 2.0L. My old magentis is known to be a drinker, but even so, it has never been worst than 7.8km/L on a 92. Your new Magentis uses a more fuel efficient CVVT theta engine more advanced than the old one. How could you have gotten those exceptionally poor FC numbers??

There isn't anything spooky here . The SPC 95 tank gave me 330km from full tank until the reserve light comes on. However the next tank which is Caltex 95 gave me 400km before reserve light comes on latest figure before I top up yesterday at Caltex.
I guess the difference may be due to the traffic condition and urban driving. I noticed that Magentis actually drinks more petrol when stationery as compared to driving. Cruising on highway actually gives me a way better FC figure than anything else.
Anyway my car is less than 2000km and still using Mineral Oil for the engine, that may also be a cause for the high FC. Nothing for me to gain if I false claim the datas here.
I would very much like to achieve 500km or more per tank if I can, I will be a Happy Man and a proud Mag Owner You may want to share your expert opinion on how to achieve better FC like 9 to 10km/L. 52 L x 9km = 468km I will buy you a cuppa
Bro, sorry if i sounded harsh lah. Didnt know that you're a NKOTB here...But anyway...welcome to d club. Your engine still breaking in...no wonder you'r getting all those weird FC. I thought your mag tank is 60L excluding the reserve? Congrats you got a v nice sophisticated ride. I've sat in GKoh's ride and her mag is smooth. I'm sure your version is better. I bought my mag in 2005, my v first car. At that time it drives very sleek and quiet....now after 105000km it badly needs a change of engine mounting ($500!!) and an engine flush. For me, driving style is the dominant factor that determines FC...how heavy or light-footed. Also at one time i was using 5w30 oil it gave me a bit better fc and quieter ride. Have fun with your stunning ride!!! The guys here always meet up, but i've never joined them before.

Thanks for the reply and understanding According to the manual it states 62L as the tank capacity. Therefore my Mag is will hit reserve tank with lights on at estimated 52L used up and 10L left.
I met a Silver Cab Mag and sat in before the mileage is 320,000km and is still in good running condition. So no worries about the 100K+ mileage.
I believe wear and tear parts just need to be replaced and your babe will be up and running in Perfect Shape. Rather curious why you don't meet up with the guys here since you have been around for quite awhile. Have a great week Bro

ya you are right specs says 62L, I think the pump attendant must have attended some comprehensive petrol pumping competnecy course and graduated from Johor State Petrol University that's why can pump in 65L He really is somebody. Anyway Bro if drive into JB tip a little and the attendants will do wonders to your tank capacity this is what people experince there. Worth while if you going makan, shopping then pump your tank super full

nash78: Hey Gary, i found the forte ecu to be very sensitive to changes. Even adding 2T to petrol @ 500:1 ratio to one tank of petrol, without other mods. ALSO makes the engine check light come. Only after i almost finish a 2nd tank of petrol, then it goes off.
