Hi
I read from manual that the gear oil is fill for life. So should we change the gear oil and at wat mileage ? Any idea where to get cheap gear oil ?
Riverview auto say must change gear oil at 40k and also coolant and brake fluid, besides engine oil. Isit normal to change all these oils at 40k ?
Thanks.

I change gear oil 20k. Once u feel that the reverse gear is hard to engage means needs to change gear oil.....

In a manual transmission, the problem is not so much the fluid degradation, but rather fluid contamination. This contamination occurs over time as the synchronizers, bearings and gears in the transmission wear out. The resulting metal particles then float around in the lubricant. And we all know that oil with microscopic particles of metal in it does not lubricate as well as clean oil. So if these contaminants are not drained out, they will shorten the life of your transmission.
Try to go for 75W90. Its smoother.

If you see the cerato owner's manual, behind you can find the maintenance schedule. for severe usage conditions, the replacement interval for manual gear oil is 100,000km. So which one to follow ? 40,000 or 100,000km ? thanks

i changed mine to redline 75W95NS(non-slip)during my 20k last week. I change as i i feel the gears are hard to engage leading to numerous mis-shifts during quick shifting. and I end up grinding my gears afew times. after changing to redline gear oil, my shifts are super smooth and slick and the non-slip additive gives a more responsive torque transfer. check MX tradings for redline gear oil, highly recommended

I do not feel any difference after changing to redline MT-20 gear oil. in fact maybe the gear shifts are harder now after changing.

They changed my gear box after i went for the kia health check up. There are sound from th gear. Leng Kee branch do the job in just one day. Are you having problem with changing gear. Simple just go any work shop and change the gear oil. U can alway do in C&C. I guess u have to tell they to test drive your car.

Please do not mix gear oil. Any unused gear cannot keep too long.

For Gear Oil i uses Amsoil Severe Gear EP 75W90 Fully synthetics. Can check with MX Tradings as i used to buy from them too. www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/svg.aspxDon't go back to Cycle as i believe they only uses normal mineral gear oil but charges even higher than synthetic oils. I have been using Amsoil for my Pica since 20000km, though rated fill for life in Picanto, i still changed out after my 60000km. Oil is still as clean and clear as if just pour in yesterday. ;D
