Juz now went to Kinonuya did some reading of D-Sport car mag and read some interesting info abt engine oils..I try to recall wat i read..The 'W' actually stands for 'Winter'...The viscosity or thickness of the EO is also called the 'weight' of the oil..the higher the number, the more thicker is the oil.......In cold climate, a low 'weight' oil is ideal and for hot climate, a higher 'weight' oil is better..For new generation EO like wat we're used to using, the EO can work in both cold and hot climates..For example 10W-50 means in cold climate, the EO will somehow become less viscuous at 10....and when in hot climate it becomes 50...not sure how this happens though..Hope i don't give wrong information..juz want to share wat I read b4 i forget...Maybe someone more knowlegeable can verify..

Exactly... W is for winter.. Mainly for cold climate... For SG, can use 0W..

Exactly... W is for winter.. Mainly for cold climate... For SG, can use 0W.. I nvr tot 'W' stands for Winter..So, when we choose engine oil, the W number in front is irrelevant lah?..Need to look at the number after the W only for hot climate..any idea wat rating is recommended for our car in Sg kind of climate?......shd be thicker..but how thick?..

For tropical climate at least... Occasionally, it helps in cold starts during cold days.. In SG, 5W series shd suffice.. Its the viscosity rating behind eg; 20,30,40,50wt that matters.. The viscosity depends on mileage and wear... Eg; 5W40 for cars more than 80k? Something like that..

Yah, for Old car better to have thicker vicosity like 15-20w40 or 15-20w50 to better protect the old engine parts. New cars less than 75000km use 5w30 is good enough. better engine respones. And More than 75000km 5-10w40 for better wear and tear protection

IMO, everytime after a 'fresh new' oil change, every ride is gonna be GOOD which is why some believe cheap & good EO change every 5k is better than best & pricey EO change every 10k.
